Two handed sword with bow
Can you use a two handed sword with a bow? Can't seem to find anything except online articles.

I'm not sure what you mean by that exactly but you can equip and bring both into battle to use. Of course you can't dual wield them if that's what you meant.

You can have both in the equipment tab - but You would obviously need to change between two handed sword or bow. Like You can´t use a one handed sword and a bow, too - or a dagger and a bow, or a polearm and a bow - basically any weapon with a bow, because the bow is two handed too - or do You know of any people who do it one handed - except for like in paralympics with modern equipment? Usually it´s one hand for the bow - the other hand for the arrow - perhaps there´s another technique that people use their mouths to pull the arrow/string, but Jimi Hendrix is the only one i know of who used this technique with success. The advantage of a two handed weapon in combination with a bow is that You can have two arrow slots - and don´t need the second one for a shield - which would be the point in using a one handed weapon. But i agree that it´s a missing in game feature that You can´t use the two handed weapon as an arrow in some bows. Or chickens. Or arms of people which You defeated before with that two handed axe.

You have 4 slots for weapons, shields, and ammo. Regardless of its size, an item only ever takes 1 slot (so the smallest dagger and the largest 2 handed sword are both 1-slot items). A bow takes one, a quiver of arrows takes another, leaving 2 slots for any other weapon/shield/quiver.

Thanks much. You answered my question. What about a pole arm? Can you equip any other weapons to be dual-wielded as well?

Again, every weapon (every piece of equipment actually, but other types of equipment only have a single slot to put something in so it doesn't matter) will only ever take up a single slot. You have 4 equipment slots to hold weapons (shields and arrow/bolt quivers also take a weapon slot). You can have 4 different polearms equipped at once.

There is no dual wielding in this game. You only ever have a single weapon equipped. Shields, however, can be attacked with. Hold the block key (right mouse button) then press the key that normally makes you kick (E I think - I can't remember as I have it rebound to a side button on my mouse). That is the closest thing to dual wielding we get.

I guess what threw me off was that you can't have a shield with a two handed sword. I thought there may be other combinations that weren't possible. So, I can give my companions who have a horse and pole arm either a two handed or one handed sword?

Basically You can fill those 4 slots with any combination of weapons, arrows, throwing weapons or shields as You like. They will more or less fast choose the right weapon for the right circumstance. The first weapon decides their role. If they have a ranged weapon they´re archers, if not they´re infantry - basically. Same if they were on horse. Two handed means You need both hands. Shield - except for some small buckler thing with is attached to Your arm - means You need one hand to hold the shield. What threw You off in not being able to have a two handed sword - and a shield at the same time? That the characters don´t have three hands? There are swords which can be used one or two-handed though - those can be used two handed - or with a shield.

You can equip 4 2-handed swords if you want, but you can only ever wield one at a time. What you CAN do, however, is get a sword or pole arm that has both 1-hand and 2-hand options so you can use them with a shield or without.

If a sword is specifically 2h...you can carry that and up to 3 other weapons/equipment (as suggested in other posts), but you can not swing/block with said 2h around and have a shield up. You have to switch between using one or the other...(which isn't an issue as I do this all the time).

There are some weapons that have 1h/2h specified, which means they go into a 1h state when used with a shield and 2h state when the shield is put away.

Polearms are a completly different class of weapons and will state whether they can be used with a shield or not.

Recap, everything I stated above does not mean you can't carry a shield...it means you can't use the shield and the weapon at the same time (unless it is a 1h/2h or a polearm that allows shield use)
