Coop for Campaign?
One of the biggest things I missed in Warband which is my favourite and most played game is a coop mode for the Campaign. I would love if friends could join me either as members of my party or have their own party on the map.

Does Bannerlord have either of those?
I mean, the game already has code in it to allow multiple humans and AI in the same combat instance. The multiplayer already does that. Coding an interface for player 2 to use while player 1 controls the world map really shouldn't be something very difficult. Nothing stops them from adding a fairly barebones co-op experience and then adding features over time and of course if the basic support for multiplayer is added to campaign, modders can add a ton of features and menus and whatever else is necessary.

This isn't some basic indie studio with 1 coder and an art guy working to make a passion project. The studio has some 70+ people right? This really shouldn't be very hard to do for them.

That has nothing to do with the lack of coop though.

WRONG! (sounds horn here)

M&B Battle time has 18,302 unique downloads - that's more than the actual active playerbase...

If everyone who wanted coop and therefore downloaded Battletime had it in Bannerlord I'd bet that the numbers on my graph would show different figures.

You are comparing a mod for a released game that has been out for 10-ish years, against an EA game that is barely out 6 months.

Not really proving your point here.

So you are using a Warband mod as evidence of Bannerlord's player count.
Of how many people owned Warband, 18k is not a lot.

If you mean that I am using a nominal value to create a realistic estimation to a game that clearly got devalued by shortsighted devs then hell yeah I am.

Besides, unlike Bannerlord - M&B Warband got sold in a boxed version and wasn't limited to steam and so the numbers will not reflect the total amount of copies so 18k is well under the actual number of sold copies.

Check this article from - May 5, 2017 3:31 PM - It predates Bannerlord.

Do you even know what your point is because I sure don't.

Wait, warband has a coop mode for the campaign? I totally missed it. Is it a mod?

Don't get too excited. All the mod does is make it possible for friends to join a battle and control a companion, and it's not exactly simple to do if I recall right.

stands to reason you don't, considering your expressed point of view. :)

Multiparty co-op would be so game altering that I don't think the game could be called M & B if it were properly/fairly implemented. Singleparty co-op would be the way to go.

There would be a host who would be Party leader and would play as SP does now. Companion players could either control an existing companion or export a character of their own to the closest tavern, to be recruited by the host.

The companion players watch the overworld map as the host makes decisions and are able to sort their gear, access the inventory and level their skills.

When the party enters a battle, the companion players act as player sergeants, controlling a portion of the hosts units or fighting without having command. Only the host has access to the prisoner screen but the entire party can loot gear after the fight.

In settlements, the companion players are put in the same instance as the host and can wander around to spend their gold, fight in the arena and engage with the local populous. Any notable characters would have a generic '**** off, leave me alone peasant, I only talk to the party leader' response to companion characters. Players could enter tournaments together, which would be neat.

Player companions would have to stay with the party and thus would not be able to be sent on missions or act as a steward etc. I think this would mean that the player companions shouldn't count toward the companion cap.

It's great and very funny how Floyd was wrong about everything. HAHAHA

Was just reading this whole thread, and thinking exact same thing lmao. Though his first couple posts showed he was off the rails. "can't join battles in progress". Why not? The AI does it with reinforcements. etc etc etc.

Would have to rework the WHOLE FRAMEWORK.
Really? then how is a warband mod able to do it? I assume they didn't rework the whole game code.

well one of the biggest problem with the coop is/was the syncronisation between the players, everything that happens on the world map has to be sent in realtime to all players, there was a mod for warband that allowed to play coop on the worldmap but the only way that worked was if every entity(AI Lords, Bandits, villagers, caravans) was removed so it was dropped relatively fast.

but for somthing more bannerlord relevant, there is a coop mod in development though it is still very early

If the developers built it into the game it would be far less complicated.

Just think... the actual design of the game permits it.

When you don't have an order issued, the game pauses.

For cooperative mode, when either player has no order issued, the game pauses.

Wow... no turn based confusion. It just works the way you expect it.

Amazing

I agree it sounds super challenging. But I am not near as smart as the average modder. So I have faith in them. My theory is if you can add troops mid battle now (reinforcements), you can have multiple parties doing different things (your brother as his own party for instance), hundreds and hundreds of games have figured out how to do 2 separate entities, especially if not sharing the same tv/monitor. And, they already have multiplayer where the game can recognize and monitor many humans at once. I feel it is POSSIBLE, (though challenging) for a modder to do a basic working mod with coop.

I doubt TW will ever do it, because of people like me. "Dude, CO-OP would be insane, I would love it, I definitely will do it" then they spend countless thousands of dollars and hours to implement it, and I will never use it "Meh none of my friends wanna do it, and the ones that do, all suck". So not a ton of incentive for TW in my opinion.

Thus, Co-OP fans only hope probably lies with modders and their big brains.

Not to overly complicate this issue: but what if the host player was the 'main character' and the game went through those eyes. the additional human characters would all be spawns in the host game. they could possibly only interact as companion armies or only as companions in battles unless things were majorly modified. co-0p play could work if you went in knowin that you were not a player character in your own map, but a spawn in the hosts game.
Would not be the perfect solution or true co-0p but it would allow for joint battles and some good natured tom foolery with friends.

You co-op people don't give up, do you?

TW has repeatedly said there isn't going to be any co-op campaign, but here you all are -- resurrecting a year-old discussion to tell everyone how easy it would be.

A conclusion based on all of your combined years of software development wisdom and experience, I assume.
