Talent Magnet gives +1 party.

We Pledge Our Swords gives +1 companion.

What would you do?

I am personally leaning toward Talent Magnet.

Definitely Talent Magnet. 6 Companions plus family members gives you plenty to work with, but being able to field another army is huge, and the 3 focus points are easily better than a potential of 10 morale in a fight.

Well drat!!

I picked Talent Magnet. I got the additional party, which is nice. I can now field an army of over 800 and not spend any influence.

But . . . and this is the sad part . . . I did not get 3 additional focus points for 3 random companions. I got 3 additional focus points for only one companion. And it was the medic who already had full Medicine and doesn't really need much else.

3 random clan members get 3 focus points and all clan members can get them even childs.

How do you know where the 3 focus points were placed? Does the game tell you? If so, where can I find/see that info?

Go to the Character page (far left page at the bottom left or hit 'C' from the map).

On the left side is a box labelled Skills. The number to the left of Skills is unassigned Attributes; the number to the right of Skills is unassigned Focus Points.

When I looked after selecting Talent Magnet, my medic person had three unassigned Focus Points, and since I never let those build up, I knew they came from Talent Magnet, especially since no one else had any unassigned points.

When I choose the perk Talent Magnet, then go back to the map, and then into the Character Page again, there are no unassigned focus points. I am playing an older version, 1.5.9.

And you're playing 1.5.9 because you're playing with mods, right?

If so, there's no telling what is going on, and I can't help you.

i would have been playing whatever the current mainline version was back in October last, and it would have had no mods because I have never trashed up my game with mods.

Your mileage may, and almost certainly will, vary.

I reloaded a save from just before I took the perk, and chose Talent Magnet once more. This time, one of the companions got 3 unassigned focus points. Issue solved :-)
And yes, I am playing because of mods that does not work with later versions. And these mods, really make the game more fun for me. (No companion limit, and recruite anyone.)

Both of you are correct, regarding "the points' but missed something.

First... why is an October 2021 Thread being Necro'd for "the choice of perk at 250 leadership"?

One more party should matter ZERO, since u can already get 4? 5? I forget, without the perk. And you can get way way way way way way way larger personal army than "800" without picking the "+1 party" option. I usually have 750-800 in my "solo army" with me and one companion party (my brother). So if I added 3 more (without USING the perk) that's another 600+

Would I ever want or need a solo army of 1400+?????? I never have yet.

Second... +1 companion? As I have pointed out many times (answering other's questions) and Clovis himself has started to point out... You can get TONS of "relatives" without any work whatsoever. (I believe I read a recent post where clovis pointed out he had 19 kids/nephews... not counting brother, bros wife, mc wife, other bro, other bros wife. etc). I have had WELL OVER 70+ family members (I forgot exact number.. but remember it was 70+ FAMILY ONLY) and I was in my 50s of age... so If I can recruit 5? 8? whatever amount of companions (I forget) and then 70+ family members.... will ONE extra companion make a difference? Usually by that time, I am stashing 80% of my companions and family in my town (which they wander from which is stupid)... so I don't have to walk around with them all.

But as to the "3 points" from that perk. People forget....
IT CAN GO TO ANY OF YOUR COMPANIONS, including your youngsters... who are not of age.. so you CAN NOT ALWAYS check who got the three easily. In fact, by the time I get the "+3" points perk, I usually have many many many heirs who are under age... And it almost always goes to them. I can't count how many times I picked it.. went to the character section to add points, and there were "None" to be had. Because it went to 3 of my underage kids/neices/nephews.

And you won't notice it until they hit of age.

Talent magnet is by far the better perk. That extra party is way more valuable than an extra companion. The focus points are pretty pointless as it is random who they go to.

The player clan can have max 4 parties including themselves without the perk, 5 with.

I really don't know why I am replying to a necro thread. Ah ♥♥♥♥ it.
