You need a variety of food... cheese, butter, beere, wine, grapes, a bit of everything, the more the better.

Meat counts as a food, but you need multiple types of food.

You need to win battles, pay wages and feed them a varied diet to maintain high morale, and even then, progress in Leadership is slow.

Quickest way to advance Leadership is to create armies, but you need to be part of a kingdom for that.

Best thing to do is join a kingdom. Make extra parties with your clan members and summon them to your army. Not only do you stop them from running off to their demise but you also raise leadership. Just keep boosting cohesion and just have a permanent army.

you get 1 or 2 pts of leadership per day and later 1 per 2 day, so just create big army (1k or so, if you're king then hire 2-3 minor factions) sit in town and do blacksmith, you get all steward, leadership and blacksmith pts. blacksmith helps to level up your char/companion levels, when you get 150 leadership, your char level around 36 or so

I run my bandits up to T4 (sea raider chief, forest bandit and highwayman), That gives me an army with decent infantry, archers and cav. Then, when I get Vets Respect, I level them all at once.
