Overall for mounted I always feel that longer reach is the most important stat for me. On foot it might be a bit different, handling would be a nice to have but still range is the biggest thing. For sieges the same.
Still, 2h Axe for everything besides rush Range Troops.
Basically for Singleplayer of course. No clue about MP.
In Warband, 1H+shield was the ting for taking a town. What is different with Bannerlord?
For me it was never "the thing" ;) Shield was nice against Range, but as soon as your troops clash and you are stuck in 3rd or 4th row and cannot hit anything, you will love a 2h Axe with max-range as you can still hit over the heads of your troops. Through the new "climbing" its not as good anymore but still works. In defense mode even more or on stairs.
Maybe its different on Realistic, but on normal/harder it works pretty nice.
1h+Shield works only in smaller brawls for me, in bigger clashes of 30-40 people against 30-40 or even more it hinders me far more as I can often not attack as much as I would like.
With the Axe you can stack up piles of dead enemys with some good positioning as you can oneshot many enemys with a good headhit, which is not that hard to do if your Men just facetank them.
2/3/4 mediium-shorter. The shorter the sword is, the faster it is on combat. At this situation (close combat) is better attack speed over length
But, on mounted combat (if you want the best) the best choice is an spear with swing attack (not thrust) and the longest length option.
2.Shorter for better speed
3&4.As long as possible
And to Бред: Ask before you conclude. I don't know what your defintion of noob is, but I have 190 units, clan tier 6, and 15718 renown. How I choose to play is my business. That is what I really like with the Mount & Blade series. Everybody can decide how they want to play. You are not forced to do it in a specific way.
otherwise ive found NPC characters function best when their 1 handers are between 100 and 120 in length, any longer and they tend to lose damage cause they are too close, any shorter and they tend to just swipe air or opponents weapons are longer and hit before they do.
cut weapons will let them demolish weaker forces with ease, the few swing/pierce choices available are great for more heavily armored foes, and maces are perfect for the most absolutely armored of foes and for capturing.
Its also assumed that you will be smithing these weapons yourself.
So far, I have used length 104 with swing speed around 95, when on foot, and length 112 with swing speed around 88, when mounted. Handling in the range of 90-95 for both lengths.
Clan Tier matters and your choice of weapon may changed depending on what you have access to or end up getting as loot.
1. Mounted on campaign map = The longest sword necessary that is appropriate with your skill level and ability to hit unmounted enemies. (Varies with personal skill, really, but very short 1hs are not generally recommended.)
2. On foot on campaign map - For field battles, you mean? IMO, it has to be balanced with weapon speed and Perks that you actively use in unmounted combat. (Shield Bash, for instance.) Weapons speed is a consideration, always, but if you have good move speed and can keep from being pressed, damage/length is a big deal. Though, a sword may not be the best choice over a good axe.
3. Siege. Attacking a fief - Whatever is best for the player while using a shield and having a bow+quiver equipped. Late game, the player will have access to better armor and can decide to go shieldless if they wish so they can clear the walls with a polearm. (If the Siege isn't borked...)
4. Siege. Defending a fief - Bow/Quiver, polearm/two-hander late game, shield+ anything mid-game.
There's no hard-and-fast recommend, here. It's all going to depend on what the player wants to specialize in and what gear they have access to. The only critical bits are:
1) The player's individual skill balances out their weapon length choices.
2) The player's ability to avoid getting enveloped is primary, here. Move speed will dictate choices. (And, it's usually best for the player to take on much more of a "Commander" role than a "Combatant" one.)
3) Bow+Arrows should always be equipped.
4) See #3.
Seriously though, in most situations where i use a one handed sword its got a length of about 110. If i'm going to go for a short one handed weapon during a siege it's a toss up between an axe or mace. Been a while, but i think they length was about 75. 95% of the time i just stick with my two handed axe or glaive though.
