X3: Terran Conflict has often been called "Warband in Space."
X4 does follow in its footsteps and has a much more modern interface/gameplay. It's a worthy successor, I suppose. (Still got a soft spot for X3:TC though... :))
its really an awesome game , starts slow and kinda boring but once your start setting up you station, mining trading pirating building your fleet thats when the game truly opens up. Its fairly complex with big learning curve.

Spacebourne 2 gave serious vibes to Freelancer, but with a empire builder to go with.
