Crossbow bolts are a little less aren't they?.
The bolt count seems kind of low, if I'm not mistaken, bolts are smaller so there should be more bolts in the quiver then arrows no?. having 18-20 bolts compared to the 27 a archer quiver gets is a little odd. If I am mistaken please correct me but it seems a little low ammo count.

could just be for balance reasons.

and yes, bolts are much smaller than arrows but also heavier than arrows, they can even be several times heavier than arrows depending on the crossbow the bolts are meant for.

Considering crossbow bolts ignore armor below 20 fairly quick (lvl 30 or 50ish?) I'd say it's for balance reasons.

Crossbow bolts are much heavier, even modern ones, than arrows are. They are also considerably more accurate. Crossbows at the time the game takes place in just where a PITA to load, but once loaded any idiot could use one. TW actually got the crossbowmen pretty spot on to be honest, even how they reload on the battlefield.

Yeah crossbows are just super strong or else you could totally just put more in the bag, but with easily scoring 140+ damage at level 40 crossbow with headshots it’s pretty necessary to nerf.

Not to mention only imperials and vlandia start with any access to them. They are still rare to other factions late game though for whatever reason (AI breaking itself financially I assume).

Which would you reccomend more, Battanian Archers or Valnadian crossbowmen?.

Well, here are three things to remember, 1.) they aren't players, but DO have aimbot sometimes 2.) depends on which unit, terrain, and all that garbage. 3.) this depends on stuff like both army compositions and a bunch of nuanced things.

but with that considered i'll assume we are talking fian champion v. sharpshooter. In which i'd say it's a tie, but fian has faster fire rate for less damage, versus the sharpshooters high damage but low ammo (fire rate doesn't really apply against them in my opinion when you have 40) In actual experience i've never used fians but have used setups where i'd only use sharpshooters for my ranged formation and in those setups i've notice how few men I lose due to the enemies being extremely weakened before they arrive to the fray. And it's also easier to get (and I assume cheaper since they aren't nobles) and maintain Sharpshooters.

TL;DR Sharpshooters, but keep in mind my inexperience.

I used to go 60% ranged and 40% infantry but just used fian Champs because they had more ammo then the sharpshooters. but at least with the sharpshooters it doesn't feel so bad as losing a fian champion also I'm a sucker for Celtic themed units so a tad bit of bias. then the khuzaits come by and wreck face half the time.

So I hear people trash crossbow men for firing arc issues and low ammo. Now they are best of class?
