Anyone find Infantry better than Cavalry?
Tier 5 Infantry seem to consistently beat tier 5 cavalry when they just charge each other.
I've been testing this in the Custom Battle mode.
Has this been everyone's experience in campaigns?

I used to only use infantry. Until I found the Aserai Faris, insane unit in my opinion.
Half Aserai Faris
Half Mameluke Palace Guard.

Faris takes out enemy cav super easy due to javlins and fastest horse + highest riding skill.
Faris also take out archers really well because of the lance.
Mameluke palace guard destroy enemy infantry.

Pretty much my army comp for the entire game.

Should Cavalry be so consistently losing to Infantry? I'm going to try 400 faris against 400 sturgians now

Well it depends on the purpose. I'm no great commander but from what I can say, my heavy cavalry eats archers for breakfast. I wouldn't charge falxmen though. It's a toolbox and you need a variety of tools.
In my experience they dont fall to mass infantry. They usually take out a good portion of the enemy army with Jereeds. Then they switch to Lancing, and if they get stuck they can fight a little bit but will probably die. They rely alot more on speed which they definitely have a ton of.

But of course I bring a dedicated anti infantry unit to make sure they dont NEED to get stuck into combat like that.

400 Vanguard Faris vs 400 Heavy Axemen
316 dead Faris vs 66 dead Axemen on battle_terrain_020 (Plain)

This is with just a charge. At this point in my head I think infantry just counters cavalry in this game.
Maybe it's a rock-paper-scissors deal where Infantry beats Cavalry beats Archers beats Infantry.
I'm going to start testing 400 archers vs 400 infantry

Try a smaller test? 50v50? Cav does need alot of room to move. and if theres 400 of them they must be getting stuck pretty consistently? No idea

I'll try that now. 400 infantry wrecking 400 archers as long as they have shields, it seems.

Nope. Seems like Heavy Axemen will destroy any archers or cavalry, of equal number, on a flat plain, charge only.
These were fun tests.

Mass cavalry will always lose to mass infantry. The reason is because cavalry suck at close range and in tight engagements, while infantry specialize in it. Infantry that clump up will swarm and surround their target with 1hs that can still land. Cavalry simply get stuck, surrounded, and spears/lances are useless at close range. On top of that, cavalry will always end up outnumbered in close range fight because infantry can clip through each other while cav will stop after they run out of momentum during their charge. So it'll end up at best a 4 inf vs 1 cav while the rest of the cav formation gets clumped up on their own line away from the fight.

Cavalry are the worse unit to leave with the charge command for this reason, they don't know how to play safe and will suicide charge into a blob, and even if they get somewhat of a proper line they can't fit the same number of units in the same space, so they get swarmed and outnumbered.

Because of this, Bannerlord cav is pretty much exclusively for shock attacks, archer hunting, or counter cav.

Just ran 500 vs 500, Legions vs Vanguard Faris. I really thought the Legions were gonna pull it off, they were doing well for a while, but then the tide of battle turned and the cavalry came out on top.
Tried one Heavy Axes vs Vanguard Faris, and the initial shock of all those javelins tearing up the more lightly armored cavalry pretty much sealed their fate. Once in melee the axemen were unstoppable.

Interesting so the legionaires lost whereas the heavy axemen won?
Maybe Sturgia is OP now!

Obviously you have the be tactical. I mostly use cavalry to attack archers from the side right before my infantry charges, confusing the archers' point of attack and creating an opening for my infantry. So its useful to me, but not my main damage dealer.

Although, it seems clear that horses are way too weak in this game (trampling someone should easily kill them and then reduce your speed, not stop you entirely and only do 1 point of damage).

I switched over to using more menavliaton because of how effective they can be at chopping up cav. Basic spear units can also really stop cav, setting them up for a quick death if you have nice damage dealing infantry to assist.

Infantry feels like it is getting stronger.
