Constantly at war fighting large armies. Also, in e1.6 you can donate equipment for troop exp.

Fight against real armies instead of bandits. Bandits give crap experience and usually come in such small groups that leveling takes a long time.

If you're early game you shouldn't be trying to level up your troops beyond tier 3 anyway, because you will find that it's hard to make enough cash to keep them paid. Once you join a faction and start fighting other lords both training speed and cash become a non issue.

do you think i can upgrade my save file to 1.6? im at 1.5.10 right now

Unless you use mods, sure. The people who have issues when versions change are almost always mod users, not people playing vanilla.

to elaborate on this, the game is gonna try to tell you that you're not playing the same mods you were if you try to load this save and ask if you want to load it anyway. when you do, you shouldn't have any issues.

I just use improved garrison mod which lets you train up garrison troops then I recruit them from my fiefs when I need them

Or the game is just gonna crash because you're trying to load a mod that's not compatible with the current game version. If it were as simple as you make it sound the board wouldn't be flooded with people complaining about their mods being broken or the game not working every time a new update comes out. I've got nothing against mods, but i learned not to use them during EA a long time ago.

I don’t play with mods.

You can have the save move into 1.6 but you won't be fully featured as your old save doesn't have the necessary values present. Technically, it will load into sandbox.

The party stance option and garrison recruitment settings won't be present, for example.

Generic changes like the commodity icons on villages will still be introduced.

It will upgrade, but some features will be missing unless they've since been pushed out to the live versions and your save has patched accordingly.

Only a save created in 1.6 will have all of the 1.6 features that aren't present in the live builds.

There's a couple of perks you can unlock, one for arms and the other for armour.
