Unless it's for a quest, yeah.

I believe the thugs are at the moment basically just there to represent the crime system that is intended to be fleshed out later in development

I haven't picked a fight with a gang since returning to the game. Is it still you and your companions all in your street gear (meaning no shields, no bows, light armor or clothing) versus an endless stream of hundreds of gang members pouring out of the city en masse with full armor and weapons?

Not sure. I did the gang quest long ago..

When I did it, I was walking around the city, then these guys started following me. One grabbed a few miniature clay pots, and put them on his fingers started clinking them together. he then started chanting "bannerlords, come out to play.... Bannerlords, come out to playay". over and over..

freaked me out.
