What's your favourite character build for a party leader/fighter?
Hi all,

since we can't change perks, and since we can't export and import characters like we used to in Warband, I wondered what character you would build when aiming for a party leader/fighter build (as oppposed to a faction leader/king/army general/governour/trader etc.).

I have done a 1h/polearm/horse archer character, and enjoyed it. I've restated with a 1h/polearm/horse javelineer, and throwing axes in other peoples' faces is assuredly great fun.

I am thinking about restarting with a 2h/crossbow character who fight on foot.

I'll try to get Vigor, Control and Endurance to 5, as well as invest 5 focus points in 1 ranged and 2 melee weapons, and then focus on Steward. I'll try to get a medic as companion as soon as possible.

How would you build a mercenary party leader/figher?

You can play around with the stat/skill points required, but this is what I go for.
1 Hand to 250
2 hand to 175
Bow to 100
Scouting to 150
Leadership to 275
Steward to 275
Smithing to 225
Riding/Athletics as they come, and a little bit of Roguery.

I think there's multiple, culture-flavored options. Ultimately I don't think there's any one build that correlates with your party role. It's more of a trade-off between investing into any combat skills, and non-combat skills.

That said, given the limitations on weapons carried at any given time, you'd quickly run out of skills to spend focus points on - you probably won't need more than three, even two weapon skills.

Under the old system, Smithing was a horrendous waste of your protagonist's precious XP.

Athletics, meanwhile, is absolutely paramount. Otherwise you'd move like a snail and be easily killed once dismounted.

In the old system, you could invest 3k materials to make an item that sold for over 300k.

In the old system, every XP point slowed down XP gain. It was better to train up a companion smith.

And what about now? I came back to the game after a long absence. Is smithing worth it?

And is scouting not something that you can let a party member do, like engineering and medicine?

Last I heard, Engineering (like Roguery) were a mess in general.

OK, so what's up with Bannerpaste? Anyone?

My current guy is a 2 hander with a bow and shield for back. Lots of fun to chop people to tiny bits :D

Ha! Always wondered if the shield on the back is worth it in that configuration.

Smithing is no longer a drain on your xp. Now it is a very useful tool to help gain the levels required to get the stat and focus points to advance your build.
The reason I have for the skills I chose is primarily for party size perks. I like big armies and I cannot lie. The only exception is Smithing, which I take to 225 to get both the vigor bonus and the boosts to 1 and 2 hand. The cash from getting it that high doesn't hurt, even without the 4 billion dinar javelins.

Oh, yeah, the social skills are essential, to the point where they take priority for focus point allocation a lot of times.

And that would unironicly be game over.

10 Cunning, 3-5 endurance, 2 everything else, extra where you want it.
Priorities FP for scouting, bow, riding, leadership, 2 from creation in medicine for the easy access to the first self healing after battle perk. rest is free choice.
Goal is mounted patrol(225 ridding) + keen sight (225 scouting)to hold enemy lords forever as prisoner and uncanny insight for max party speed.
Build is for fast powerful party to destroy or capture all other parties and siege at my leisure with no outside resistance.

Thanks all! That was very instructive. Keep making Calradia great again!
