How to disband my own Kingdom
I have been playing the game as the same faction for 10 years (ingame) and the ruler died and I voted myself to become king but now my faction has around 8000 power and rolling over everyone. I don't think that is fun so I was wondering if there was a way to disband my own kingdom or leave it so I can join another weaker faction?

Earlier someone wrote if you do that it crashes the game, and causes bugs. I'm not sure.

I originally thought just click "Leave Kingdom". But apparently, that isn't a good idea.

I wanted to disband my kingdom, too, but I was unable to find a way to do it. I think that pushing that Create Kingdom button is irreversible.

I tried to click "Leave Kingdom" but it's grayed out and I also tried to give away all my fiefs but that doesn't work since I'm not allowed to "annex a ruling clan's fief".

Well, and this is extreme.. But if you are set against starting new. These are some things I'd try

Leveling trade to 225, Getting the perk to trade fiefs. (Legit or cheat mode, however you wish to do it).

Then I'd try to sell my fiefs to other clan members in my Faction. Can't sell it? How about gift them?

If that didn't work, Id declare war on as many people as possible. AFTER clearing out all my troops from my fiefs (delete them, or donate them to OTHER clans fiefs for Influence). I'd then make a big army, after declaring war, and drag all my allies away from my fiefs, see if the AI takes them.

If that didn't work, Id be out of ideas.

But, tbh 10 years isnt a super long campaign, and 8k is not super power by any means, I've had my kingdom with 27k power, and still have 3-4 AI declare war on me, Not counting the factions with NO FIEFS left (northern, southern etc.. They are the worst, because won't accept peace since they have nothing to lose, you need to constantly pay them off... a lot).

If you find it boring now, I'd start again, BUT. I will say, all campaigns tend to end up the same way. Boring at the end when you can stomp everyone. This is why I do many different campaigns, sometimes I play two at a time (I'm at home, no work, Covid Shutdowns.... so got tons of time lol)

How do you disband a kingdom? Asking for a friend.

I managed to disband my kingdom in sandbox mode by clicking the "Abdicate Leadership" button. You can find it top right on the kingdom screen besides your character profile.

But it might be important to say that my clan was the only clan within the kindom by the time I abdicated so a message popped up saying "Are you sure to abdicate leadership? There are no other clans to take leadership. Your kingdom will be destroyed." So you may have to expel any other clan of the kingdom first.

After the kingdom was destroyed I kept all my fiefs but had to reassign any companion as governor that has been assigned to be governor before :)

Edit: FYI - My influence also was reset to 0 after kingdom was destroyed.

I tested this a while back and reported in tis dicussion --

Some highlights --

When you abdicate, you leave the kingdom, but you keep your fiefs. But it disbands your armies and removes all of your governors and stashes them in one place, so you have to reassign them.

If you have no other clans in your kingdom, it dissolves the kingdom. I do not know what happens if you have other clans. It may make one of them king. Why don't you save and test this?

It also for some reason, creates a message stating that ownership of every town and village and castle has changed, but they still belong to you. Again, I do not know what happens if you have no other clans. They might keep it. No clue. Save and try this, too.

So save and give it a try and report back here.

And the OP did give it a try and reported back --

Just tried it. It's really cool. So you can abdicate leadership, and vote someone else to be a "Ruler". After that, you can even leave the kingdom and create another, and battle against your old one. I gave my kingdom to one of my old companions, which I made vassal, and all of the companion vassals remained there. It's really cool.

Mark me for shame, but I had to disband my kingdom. Being the only clan in the kingdom (new kingdom), I was able to hit 'abdicate throne.' Since my clan was the only one, it disbanded the kingdom.

So if you think you need to necro a discussion that's more than a year old, maybe you could provide some information about your problem.

What version are you running? Is it beta? Do you have any mods? Have you ever had any mods?

Man, people on this forum are just never happy. One minute it's "read old threads," the next it's "stop necroing old threads."

WHat they ARE unhappy about is people with inability to read.
Kist like you are here. You read that comment as "stop necroing threads", when that is not the case.

So, maybe, just maybe, start to read and try to understand what people tell you?

Wasn't there a trick where you could hire some random companions that you're not going to care about, give them all your castles/town, ect, then kick them from your clan? Or maybe you made them leader of your faction? So they'd have ownership of all the settlements and castles as rebels or something along those lines? Then you just leave Kingdom as a vassal with no holdings. It was something along those lines.

I can't recall 2020 was the last time I played in earnest till a couple weeks ago.

I think you have to be able to make them lords, which is not part of the base game. I've never had a crash on the disbanding a kingdom error (though I've only had to do that once, I think in was in Beta 1.7 or 1.8).
Clovis Sangrail Mar 15, 2023 @ 8:36am
The Abdicate Leadership button works. I know. I just tested it in current mainline version with no mods.

Ben10Honey apparently just came here to whine about it, because he didn't provide any information to let anyone help him. Still hasn't.

And Forblaze, sweetie -- There's a big difference between using the search function to see what has already been written on a subject and necroing year-old threads that may not even be applicable any more.
