repair damaged equipment?
hey there guys.

it happend again to me today, for the third time in the last 2 months.
(2 times in 1.5.2 and now for the first time in 1.5.3)

it looks like by pure random, all my looted equip is repaired.
(rusty, cracked, tattered, etc)

is this actualy a bug?
google and forums have no real awnsers....................
but it looks like there is a bunch of people who had the same experience and ask how it works.

if this IS a bug, then IT SHOULDNT.
repairing stuff sounds awesome to me, especially if you could choose what to repair.

using the smithy, choose what you want to repair and pay money based on the tier sounds like a good idea to me.

I think it is just part of the game, I wouldn't use the looted items for yourself or companions but instead you should sell them in towns to make money to buy better equipment.

Why are you being hostile? These are, indeed, lower quality versions of their base class of items.

These quality indicators are spawned when the item is generated, AFAIK. The only "damage" accrued is for Shields unless something has changed. (Haven't played for a few patches and have been busy this week.I doubt they'd change that mechanic, though.)

It's not beyond the realm of reason that if they make some database changes, some affix types like this could fail to register or just get "wiped."

Have you used any mods? That could certainly cause some issues.

How far apart were the versions? (ie: The one you had vs the one you patched to)

Public Steam Branch or Beta version?

i never used any mods and im always playing the newest beta patch.

and as i sayd, it looks like (based on other forum posts) that im not alone.

maybe "repairing" is the wrong word, if there is really no way to "repair" something on purpose.
but i can guarantee for what i saw/happend to me 3 times by now, that "broken/damaged" items/versions like rusty, tattred, cracked, u name it, turned into their "normal counterpart".

PS: i NEVER sayd that i cant wear or use these items.
i could wear them.....................
but why would i? they are ment to be trash.

and as i stated before:

it happend to me two times in beta patch 1.5.2
and once, this morning in beta patch 1.5.3
all 3 where new games from the start without loading into a newer version. (ecxept for hotfixes)

im not a programmer and i dont have any knowledge of that materia myself.
but i would think they use the same base item/item ID for rusty, cracked etc version, just scripted into changing at some point.

for example like:

hero XYZ uses an iron flyssa in battle
=
hero has chance of dropping "RUSTY" iron flyssa after deafet.

my guess would be that its possible that a bug can occure that changes everything back into its "normal" form.

again, it is what happend to me and not just once.
what reason would i have to make this up?
i have so many hours in the game that i guess stuff like this can happen.
and i was curious if it is a "feature" i wasnt able to find or if it is a bug, and if, how this bug occures.

thanks for replying

Ok, I get what you are saying now and have experienced the same thing a couple times myself, but it's hardly a major issue. Worst case is that you get a little more gold when you sell it in town. Sure, it needs fixing, but compares to the other issues the game has this one is minor.
Pophet Oct 12, 2020 @ 2:02pm
its not an issue whatsoever.
i was just curious on how it happens.

but i still think there should be a way to "repair" all these equips in the future.
but i dont mind if its happen in like version 5.8.3 :)

you have endless money anyways, no matter what you do.

How is it that nobody can read?
Tempered Oct 12, 2020 @ 2:10pm
It is most likely a bug with item quality prefixes. The quality prefix is suppose to add a modifier to the items stats and price, but I haven't noticed much of a difference in rusty, bent, cracked items. They seem to have the same stats as the brand new item.
flyingscot1066 Oct 12, 2020 @ 10:24pm
The "condition" modifiers to looted equipment is not fully implemented. They're supposed to go from negative quality (rusted, cracked, tattered, etc) to positive quality (sharp, thick, heavy, lordly, etc) but right now only negative quality items drop as loot. It's not a "bug" but not yet working as intended.
I think the idea of being able to remove negative quality modifiers, and possibly even add positive modifiers through Smithing is a good idea, if they can figure out a way to limit its effect on the economy.

Ah, the Beta!

In what branch did the saved game playthrough you're playing originate, the Steam Public Branch (default branch) or the Beta Branch (Opt-in Beta)?

That may help figure it out if it's not exclusively a known Beta issue. Otherwise, it's... "Beta" so someone goofed or is making changes to the item/attributes list and the game is interpreting that in weird ways.

Beta should be reasonably stable, but it is an opt-in "Beta" patch branch. Those sorts of patch schemes are generally not really amenable to long playthroughs.

Note: You can switch a playthrough from Steam Public to Beta Branch, but can't switch from Beta Branch to Steam Public without being very likely to have "gamebreaking issues." It's the nature of the Beast, so if you decide to go back to playing Steam Public, you'll want to start a new playthrough.

i have all the awnser i needed, THANK YOU GUYS,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

to sum it up:

in the current state of the game ( e1,5.3.243031 ) there is no LEGIT way of reapairing "damaged" items OR upgrade lower class tier items with the same name into the higher tier version.
a "rusty" iron flyssa will stay "rusty".
but there is a bug that CAN occure occasionally, that will indeed "transform" these "damaged" items into their "original" form.
nothing is known about the bug and how you can replicate this it.

I think the bug appears to be when you have very large inventory. Typically, I have good luck getting it "fixed" by just never selling loot until it happens. It may take a few large battles, but it does predictably happens.
