Switching between Kingdoms as vassal
In my current game Vlandia was getting out of control, so I essentially decided to leave and join the other side of a war. I wanted to do so as a merc but owning settlements apparently makes that impossible. When I tried to become a vassal it said I needed to be clan tier 2 (my clan is currently 4) I assume this is unintentional, does anyone know of a mod or workaround to allow me to switch between kingdoms?

You cant hire yourself anymore as a mercenary if you are above 2 tier, simple

I get the mercenary thing, I'm trying to switch kingdoms as a vassal just like the AI clans do. That should be possible.

Yes, you can... I was hiring myself out as a Merc right upto Tier 4 in a recent campaign, and only then agreed to become someone's vassal, as a means to an ends of my own kingdom...

To the OP...

Try leaving Vlandia first in the Kingdom screen... You will probably have to forfeit any holdings you own, however, in order to become a vassal of another empire... Not sure on this, as I've never tried when owning a fief...

The message is wrong, IIRC, when you want form your own empire, as you can keep your fiefs, despite it telling you you have to forfeit them - you end up in a war with your former lord, if you keep them...

This might also be the case when trying to join another kingdom...

I'm pretty sure you can even be a t6 merc if you want. Not with settlements though.

Thanks for the help. It turned out to be my fault.

It said I needed a relation of -10 as well as clan tier 2. I had exactly a -10 relation. By raising my relations with the king to -9 it allowed me to join.

At most the tooltip could be more clear but it does work. Thanks again
