Report a translation problem
I get the mercenary thing, I'm trying to switch kingdoms as a vassal just like the AI clans do. That should be possible.
Yes, you can... I was hiring myself out as a Merc right upto Tier 4 in a recent campaign, and only then agreed to become someone's vassal, as a means to an ends of my own kingdom...
To the OP...
Try leaving Vlandia first in the Kingdom screen... You will probably have to forfeit any holdings you own, however, in order to become a vassal of another empire... Not sure on this, as I've never tried when owning a fief...
The message is wrong, IIRC, when you want form your own empire, as you can keep your fiefs, despite it telling you you have to forfeit them - you end up in a war with your former lord, if you keep them...
This might also be the case when trying to join another kingdom...

Thanks for the help. It turned out to be my fault.
It said I needed a relation of -10 as well as clan tier 2. I had exactly a -10 relation. By raising my relations with the king to -9 it allowed me to join.
At most the tooltip could be more clear but it does work. Thanks again
