Failed Neretzes’ Folly
Well I kinda messed around the campaign map for a bit too long. I was amassing an army and doing other ♥♥♥♥. I was also talking to some lords I came across randomly as I wondered across Calradia but I just noticed that one of the lords I'm supposed to talk to has died of old age. Question is am I f**k*d as far as building my own custom kingdom goes or can I do something to fix the situation?

It fails after 10y/840d.
Afail it only offers a rather pointless "quest"series which is suspected to cause wars against you.
As of 1.5 you can found your own kingdom in the clantab with the same requirements as the quest (t4, independant, owning a fief...)

Also there are more than 10 lords you can talk to. Only azuregos/iswhatever are unique and also can die from age.

So should I create a new save? Do I lose any important features of the game?

I don't consider the quest anywhere near important. Its basicly a ticker that goes to 2000 and tries to make you to go at war with others.
As i said, you can found a kingdom w.o. it in 1.5 or newer.

Lucon died of old age in my campaign in less than 30 days... Seems ridiculous that the clock is ticking that aggressively. I guess the quest isn't worth doing?

Bingo.

Yeah I was 45 days into the campaign when Lucon died for me if I remember correctly.

Keep playing. The quest isn't that big of a deal. If you are going well you will eventually get your own castles and towns on your own (sooner if you join a faction), and you can create your Kingdom later anyway.

Marriage and a tier 6 armour is more crucial.

The thing you are really missing out on with the quest, is your brother. If you got him, you got the best thing. He is a great quartermaster, but with death on he doesn't last in battle.

You're supposed to talk to 10 lords, but they aren't unique. There's a list of something like 40 lords you can talk to about the quest, so one of them dying doesn't change anything.
Unless you messed around for more than 10 years and the quest actually expired. But even then the quest merely leads to forming your own kingdom, which you can do from the clan tab anyway.
