launcher crash
so i still can't play. my launcher is crashing right when it starts. if i bypass the launcher with the other exe in the game's files i can play. but you need the launcher to activate mods.

i click play.
it says it's running on steam for like 3 seconds.
and then it stops saying that.
no window opens or anything.

this has happened to me before and it seems to have fixed itself before with a patch. buuuuut this time i've been waiting for months for it to magically go away and it has not. thus... i make a post about it.

First - Don't use mods. Not right now, at least. Wait until there is official mod support and TW is ready for Bannerlord to go through "mod testing."

Did you EVER try using the "fixed launcher mod?" If so, that's been a known "crasher" of the launcher ever since the problem that launcher-mod was created to solve has been fixed with a patch...

UNINSTALL YOUR MODS.

All of them.

All.

Make sure all their accompanying .dll files are uninstalled as well. All. Either you want to play the game without issues or you want to use mods - Your choice.

Delete "launcherdata.xml" as per this thread to see if it helps: https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?threads/launcher-issue.431729/

" "C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord\Configs"."

I've had this same issue for the past couple of updates. Nothing works so far.

Then it either hasn't ever had a "first run" or there's something preventing it from writing it. Or, it never got installed if there's some factory-default for it.

Try Exiting Steam, rebooting, then relogging back into Steam. (Exit using "Steam->Exit") to force Steam to check itself and your profile/user info/settings/yada yada.

Games "running in the background" is a Steam Thing ™. It's something that typically happens when Steam has a problem executing the game or the game has a problem being executed by Steam for "reasons." What are those? Who the F knows because Steam hasn't provided anything consistent in way of a response to that issue. It's all a series of "try this" with some efforts working, some not...

Anti-Virus programs have been suspect. Permissions need to be properly configured.

NVideadisplaycontainer/localsystem service has been suspect.

There's a Steam data file that, upon deletion, seems to have worked for some, too. (Can't remember it atm, but a search should unveil it.)

MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner have both been very much prime suspects in many cases across many games.

Any "alternate display method" like Borderless Window, Fullscreen forcing, etc, has been suspect.

Bannerlord has KNOWN issues with multi-monitor setups, OS-forced "sound effects" used with
headphones and similar speaker connections and that has been suspect.

Anything that intercepts commands "could" be suspect, like overlays, (Steam Overlay, for ex.) special keyboard/mouse/etc features, could be suspect if Bannerlord can't recognize what the driver is saying.

Non-standard display ratios/resolutions or issues with the user's system regarding those that have not been corrected or due to their driver not fully supporting what they're using.. has been suspect.

Missing and very necessary "dependencies" could certainly be suspect. (Google Bannerlord Dependencies for the link to Tech Support's list.)

In short - The issue could be that your neighbor's cat has an intestinal flu. It's that "random." Diagnosing exactly what it is will be hit-or-miss unless TW pops up with a definite fix that they already know about and hasn't been mentioned above. But, the whole point is that it isn't necessarily a Taleworlds problem. I've got pretty hefty gripes about Bannerlord, but this ain't one of them. :)

(ugh... i sound like such a karen right now..) (aaaaaaand now the counter argument is going to destroy me... i accept that.) "But, the whole point is that it isn't necessarily a Taleworlds problem." um.... but... wouldn't the game not working be the DEFINITION of a Taleworlds problem?

Taleworlds problem? [/quote]

I don't know what to tell you, If you didn't installed mods and you uninstalled them properly, the launcher should work.
Works fine for me and 3 of my friends, and we all have different computers. (We all have ''recent builds though, and all more than 16g ram

i mean i only have 16 gb of ram and a 3 year old rig. but it has no trouble running the game. just the launcher that's busted for me. i can run the game by bypassing the launcher.

You might want to check their customer support, if you have a recent/decent rig and it stlll crashes, it isn't normal.
Game has a few bugs, but it runs smooth overall.

Hey! Can you try to verify the game files through Steam after deleting all of the contents of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\bin" folder and try launching again?

You can also check if this folder has any .dll files that are not from our side. It should look like this, please remove any .dll files that is not listed below:

Also; you can check these fixes to solve the issue:

When uninstalling, did you remember rto delete any residual files not touched by steam?

It might be as easy as goong to bannerlord's install directory>bin ajd deleting the win64 folder. Forces a fresh dl of the exes and dlls
Cookiesnm1lk Sep 30, 2020 @ 1:59pm
Thx taleworlds community team. going through the dll files and deleting the ones that should not be there seems to have solved my issue. though i'm not sure how they got there since BEFORE doing that, i did a fresh install (deleting the files steam didn't upon uninstal and everything).
