Should I attack caravans?
I want to earn some renown, and enemies always attack my caravans, so should I, or I will lose reputation with somebody?

you'll lose rep, but if its from an area (town) where you don't care to recruit from, you're all good. personally, i'd just stick with bandits, as caravans can have some tough units in them (but good loot to sell).

I made much more sense in Warband, when you lost relation to the faction or the local lord. I wish I could raid and get away with it, it would be more fun and diverse gameplaywise.

It's also a pain to chase the caravans. When they flee they're as fast as a small, cavalry-only army.

For the player, losing reputation is terrible. But to the AI, rep doenst matter in the least. This is kind of unfair...

I only attack caravans if my faction is at war with the caravan's faction. There is too big a reputation hit otherwise.

If our factions are at peace, I leave them alone.

I look upon it as economic warfare.

I like to keep a mobile force with lots of cavalry and horses so I can catch them.

Clovis gets it. If you are going to pick off caravans you want a smaller mobile force, and to be at war with them.

I am currently using a force of 69 (lol), 21 Triarii and the rest horse archers. Speed of 6.2 which is enough.

But how does it affect the reputations and does it give you negative traits? I would do it if there was no lingering bad side effect.

Two things happen when you attack a caravan. The npc who own's the caravan will be upset and you will lose rep with them. So that npc, where ever they are in the world caravans can travel everywhere, will not let you recruit any troops from them anymore.

If your a part of a faction, either a mercenary or vassal, and your at war, nothing else will happen. If your still on your own, not a mercenary or vassal, the faction the caravan came from will start getting angry with you. Once they get annoyed enough they will declare war on your clan.

So do as advised, only attack caravans that are apart of factions your already at war with.
