Even with smithing you cant actually make a real two handed sword, 132 or something is maximum length you can get. And thats with the bugged hilt.
my friend , i smith 2handers with minimum lenght 123, all depends on a handle and blade
My friend, I looked at every 2 handed sword part, picked the longest ones, increased their length to maximum with the slider. 132 or thereabouts is largest you can make. 123 is tiny for a 2-hander. I can make 1 handed swords that are that length.
2-handed swords are so bad in this game, mainly because theyre tiny. You need a minimum length 150 melee weapon from horseback unless youre a masochist.
Two-handed swords have high damage, and you can swing long twohanders much faster than long onehanded swords. >100 damage at >90 swing speed isn't exactly useless.
If you pick targets that aren't focused on you even about 100 is perfectly fine. Though yes, length helps a lot from horseback.
Then again, twohanded swords from horseback... pretty sure that's a severe case of the realisms.
If that's the case I'd say they need to fix that. two handed swords should be Improved alot!! And alot more!! I find the weapons In general are lacking theres just not nearly enough then there should be.
If you could me the sword
You don't need to be higher ranked just to buy better stuff do you??
This would be why previous M&B games gave a malus to damage modifiers from using a two-handed weapon on horseback.
As for the idiots claiming you need long length for a 'two-handed sword', historically, that's untrue unless you are talking about something ridiculous like a Zweihander that's designed to specifically fight horses or compete with the reach of pikes.
The primary practical advantage of a normal two-handed sword is the increased leverage, which results in a faster, more easily manipulated blade, with a more solid grip on the hilt. Actual blade length tended to be within half a foot of length of a contemporary one-handed sword. Generally speaking, the greater the length of blade, the longer hilt needed to maintain working leverage and grip, with the longer you make the blade, the less versatile the blade gets.
There is a reason that as history went on, swords got longer, then shrunk back down, when it comes to non-specialty swords. They pushed sword length to it's maximums, then discovered that at that point, you were better off just using some form of polearm than trying to use a sword of that size, resulting in swords shrinking back down.
As far as I can tell, yes. I don't think clan level's a good gate for it myself.
When your clan level is around 3 or so, you probably won't see weapons/armor going for over 40k. You should still be able to find some two-handed swords in Battania though that are cheap enough to avoid the cutoff. I think they'll still be around Tier 4 or 5? Just don't go looking for Noble Bows anytime soon.
However, maybe rather than outright gating it off, simply have the prices be ludicrously high if your clan level isn't high enough, to represent having to monetarily 'persuade' the merchants to sell you stuff they technically aren't supposed to.
And you'll still have to switch modes after unequipping the shield.
