Workshops Destroyed Due to War
Really? I lose my workshops in a town because the empire I'm contracted to goes to war with someone? Or a friendly town gets captured and it is now lost, poof, 15k a pop.

I could appreciate maybe losing access to it for the duration of that war or something but this is just irritating and rather disincentivises being a mercenary and changing sides since if you work around then you'll lose all workshops as wars come and go.

So many mechanics seemingly designed to just inconvenience the player, so that I'm forced to run back and forth on the map to replace things arbitrarily removed as if that's an entertaining gameplay loop. That's busywork. -_-

I mean, you are AT WAR. You expect you will just be able to waltz in and be like "Yo, just checkin on my blacksmith here, gonna collect my money to feed to the kingdom you are at war with, no biggie bruhs."

It is perfectly reasonable to lose workshops you own in countries you go to war with.

I think that OP is wishing that it was restricted like it was in Warband, not destroyed like it is in Bannerlord or completely unaffected by war. I doubt any change like that is going to be made in vanilla though.

I never played far enough in Warband to see how it was. I have it, but can't get into it with how much more Bannerlord improves almost every aspect of Warband, imo.

But I am completely okay with how they did the workshops. If you went to war with a country, you don't think they would take over the shops you have?

Yep, they did the same during Warband, except for some reason they gave you your workshop back after the war ended. It does make more sense that it stays gone though.

I usually only merc for the kingdom that I have workshops in, so it hasn't really been an issue for me in Bannerlord.

It probably just hurts more because you can't have as many workshops and a workshop costs more generally.

I was surprised myself, but it is more realistic. After a war you are not going to return loot either. Once you know, just make sure you create the shops in your own towns, or safely in the rear. Once you are battle ready, workshops are not even necessary, you earn alot of cash in a few other ways

It's a game mechanic. There are risks in investing money to buy a Workshop and consequences to be paid if a town falls.

It's kind of hamfisted since it doesn't really present much risk to the late game player. By that time, that kind of economic loss is meaningless and it's just a time-sink to go buy another one. But, one assumes a Lord isn't going to care much about some tiny little workshop and a few thousand monies.

It's a suitable risk/consequence in the early game, though - Pick a stable, well-protected, town and you're rewarded for your good decision. It could also be a decent motivation to participate in defending that town... if players could actually get to participate in a defensive siege of a Town... (So very rare the AI just doesn't switch targets if the player tries to actively defend.)

Maybe there just aren't enough other activities to balance out the nuisance of it, but it just strikes me as extra faff when there is enough faffing around to be done already. I much preferred property being barred until a town is recaptured or made peace with, it was an acceptable balance between loss of income and consequences without being tiresome.

You can set up your workshop anywhere. Meaning you can set your workshop in the far south where nobody will ever come around (probably) if you want a very secure place to get money.

Damn that's stupid. It's not even like countries fight total wars - they just campaign against each other for a few months. And they all declare wars on each other - stugrians even declare war on those arabs. So you're pretty much only allowed to make workshops in the kingdom you serve to.

It was always supposed to be that way but the mechanic never functioned until now. In 1.5.8 beta the AI doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ nor will it avoid a town because the player is there either. Put your workshops in a capital city and you should be okay (Lycaron, Marunath..etc).
