Second line of archers not firing?
I've noticed that when I have a lot of archers only the first line seems the fire.
IT would seem the first line of archers is blocking the second line from firing.
Anyone else noticed this?
If so what do you do to fix it?

I think you can spread them out with a command, should give them room enough to fire.

Oh and it's always beneficial to place your archers on a downward slope, if possible. That way the back ranks will have an easier time to hit.

The problem with formations isthat it offers little control.
If u spread them out sometimes they spread too thin.
Same with shield wall, I would like to have a 4 deep line wall but I cant my troops either make 2 or 3 deep and just extend the wall furthr. this is kinda useless vs cav.

You can have a second control group of infantry and put them right behind the first for a 6 rank wall. And you want your archers to be spread thin. That way enemy archers dont hit them and you can tell your shieldwall to advance 10 paces to stand in front of the archers once the enemy gets close and not have them get stuck in solid, tight archer ranks.

But yea, it's quite finnicky :) I suspect it works better when you can place your troops before the battle starts. Never gotten the perk so far so don't know if its implemented yet.

I really think that placing your troops before battle should be a base line ability that anyone can use. It just seems like a nice way to make battles tactical and not just a wall of your troop that you have no time to arrange properly before the fight.

Or maybe even let us customize general control group placement into custom formations that can be called with the F1-10 commands, then you can use them to quickly regroup after a fight has started and have several predefined formations for different scenarios.

I just with they woulld add a command to deepen or spread the formations out more.
For archers u could tell them to spread further or less and they would spread lik 4-5 feet more or less.

For lines I would like to be able to tell my units to tighten the line and become less spread appart and less wide.
As it stands with 50 inf I can only make a 2-3 deep line and its very derpy.

With tighten the line you mean for them to just stand closer to each other? Because that already exists in the game. If you mean for them to have less troops per rank and then more ranks instead, yea that would be a great feature. Or at least let you choose in the party screen how many ranks you want each control group to consist of. Because maybe there's not enough time in battle to fiddle with rank numbers on every control group.

Both, both be able to select how long u want your line or formation to be, Total War style.
And have them stand closer together.

It exists? Please tell me how can I make the formation tighter?

And yes choose in thep arty screen would make a lot of sense.

Wait, you are correct. There's no command to tighten up your lines. I only use "Loose" and just assumed there was a "tight" as well. In warband you there was a "looser" and "tighter" command so you could do it in steps. I guess I assumed it worked the same way here.

I have heard reports that the troop AI really finds it hard to get attacks off if they stand to close to each other. I suspect that's the reason there's no "tight" command. Hopefully they'll sort it out and add the command later down the line.

Yeah I hope so, as it stands troop formation seems very clunky.

Circle formation on my infantry makes them create a very WIDE 1 line circle that just doesnt do anything.
My archers on the other hand stand close together when in circle formation.
Its all over the place and they really need to focus on good and better troop formation.

You can place your toops also with holding your left moush button and drag it. Its possible to make a 4 row wall then

Same for the archers just spread them out and adjust with your mouse
Just make sure you face them to the enemy by pressing f2 2 times

This is a lot of what I wanted.

Hey guys I didn't know where to post this but I was wondering if you might be able to help me out.

I am just wondering if anyone else is having issues with the dragon banner quest. I have the dragon banner and all required 4 boxes ticked but when I approach the quest giver he wont give me any dialogue to advanced the quest. Also if I just form my own kingdom then I lose the tick in the clan independence box. Any help would be appreciated

It has very little to do with positioning. I formed a square and placed it on a 45* slope and still only the first row fired. They need to make attacks penetrating friendly troops like in Warband at lest fot the archers.
