Sanala has two grain producing villages, so a brewery might work. But if it doesn't, tanners seem to work almost everywhere.
But you need to stick close and keep the local trade routes free of looters and bandits and enemy raiders. Don't start a workshop then go tear-assing around the countryside fighting battles. Spend some time at home bringing peace to the locals.
That has to do more with a high prosperity than what the connected villages produce and what kind of workshop you pick.
At this point I'm fairly sure this whole feature is bugged/broken or severly imbalanced.
Prosperity is a major factor. However, location also plays a decently important factor. Brewery at Sanala will give 1.2-1.8x more per day relative to say ... Makeb at equal prosperity values.
If it was that simple... 2x Flax towns at Balgarde (or whatever it's called), no wars, 3500 prosperity, cleaned out all lairs and constantly patrolling for looter gangs = 9-12 denarii income for over a month.
So basically some resoures are total garbage, even if there's tons of it and noone is intercepting deliveries from villages.
No point playing the "workshop game" until they fix it or you get a mod for it. I stopped caring about those "factors" the moment I realized it's broken. The real income's at battles and owning fiefs.
Haha. Okay. You can keep telling yourself that if you like. I'll keep making 5-6k daily from my workshops that took 5 minutes to buy and have otherwise invested no time in.
You do that, I'll wait until it's actually properly fixed. Or just use a mod for it.
Edit: that is on 1.4.2, tanneries are better in 1.4.1 by a lot.
Two workshops though out of how many?
I'm on 1.4.1, so 1.4.2 may be completely different.
