Which version of the game should I play?
Hey all,

I'm getting back into the game after taking a month break, I was playing it non-stop when it first came out (bloody brilliant game). I've noticed there are multiple branches of the game out now (Main & Beta). So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to which version I should play coming back into the game with a fresh campaign?

Cheers!

Edit: I don't plan on using any mods with the game if that changes anything, ty!

Main branch: Known issues
Beta branch: A few changes to known issues, potentially new issues.

Available mods often will not work for the constantly changing beta branch.
The beta has some great features, but at least from my personal experience and many others, it has proven to be very unstable and I've actually had to start a new game due to a beta-related game breaking bug. Mods are very hit or miss as well.
I haven't had any stability issues with the main branch and while it obviously has its issues, it is perfectly playable and enjoyable and for these reasons is the current version I'm playing on.
Try not to tempt yourself to read the beta patchnotes if you haven't done so already because there's some great improvements in there, but I would wait for these improvements to be moved into a stable main branch.

I haven't had any issues with 1.2.1 and I'm running lots of *modifications too. (*Installed manually)

Dunno if you've got the time/will to wait a couple of days or not, but the 1.3 Beta should hit Alpha pretty soon.

If it weren't for the game breaking bugs of 1.3 , it would be a better game than 1.2.1, but it just isn't playable. I had to switch back to 1.2.1, and it was hard because I missed a lot of the features of 1.3, but 1.3 has too many problems.

Thank you for the replies everyone!

I'm thinking I may play it safe and start a new game with the main branch (v1.2.1), however ill definitely keep a close eye on the coming v1.3 updates. The beta branch was just coming out when I stopped playing and I remember people saying it was buggy despite how good it looked.

Good to know the beta still a little to buggy to be worth it, thanks again and happy pillaging!

The 1.3 beta is alot more challenging then the main branch since I find AI to be smarter, also lords don't escape as much.

Interesting... Do you find it to have more glitches in your experience??

You should definitely play 1.3.

It has about 3 or 4 key changes that are an improvement over the other versions.

Doesn't mean it's all good. It's just better.
the beta branch will always be more glitchy. Unless you intend on testing stay with the older branch. we have way too many fools who get the test branch and complain about it.

at the start, but they kept hotfixing it. Also, I must mention I use mods as without them game sucks lol.
The only bug that 1.3 still has now, is sometimes the battle lags when troops route. They didn't fix that yet.

Beta branch has serious issues with performance degradation. Will run perfect for two battles or so then turn into a intermittent chug-fest.

The game code must be so sloppy that memory leaks are all over the place. Personally given up hope on this game due to this. I do not believe Taleworlds knows how to fix it.

Certain mods are not updated to 1.3 Beta build.
Thats why i play on 1.2.1 normal build.
Also switching game version, ea downloading 2 gbyte everytime i wanna play multiplayer is annoying.

I suppose ill accept some additional glitches if the beta version is better overall. It is an early access game after all
