Best weapon against cavalry
I’m playing on foot and seems sometimes I get caught out by cavalry, what’s the best way to deal with a charging cavalryman? I have 1 slot left (I have a 2h axe and shield and 1hander) so I’m thinking some kind of pole arm? If so which one? This will just be for dealing with cavalry as I prefer to use the other weapons for everything else.

Smith a glaive with 200ish reach and 160-170 dmg and go swinging. Both the falx head and warrazor heads from T4 work.

Don't get caught out alone? As a commander you should always be mounted.

polearm and doesn't really matter how good it is only thing that matters is length the cavs will do the rest

Meta gamer alert.

Playing on foot was a fun challenge in Warband. I liked being part of a Nord shield wall. Some people try out new things every once in a while - when I am going to start my Sturgia Viking campaign I'm probably going to try and command on foot as well. Is that the best way? Probably not. But I don't care.

And on topic, yeah, I'd suggest a polearm/pike and shield.

throwable or arrows. If you hit the rider(for at least 5) he is staggered and can no longer hit you.

A throwable will pretty much one shot a rider going full speed on any hitbox.

Arrow will kill a rider with a headshot.

More like non-idiot alert. If you WANT to hamper yourself go ahead, doesn't make it any less dumb.

You do realize you can play multiple campaigns, right?

If you always want to play the same cookie-cutter style, you go ahead, I'm not stopping you either. Just wanted to point out that your commentary on other people's play style is a bit idiotic yourself. If the thread was about "what's best for commanding an army, mounted or not?" then yes, you go ahead and explain him the meta ultra best way to play the game. Otherwise, just answer his question and you have a slightly lesser chance of coming across as a douche.

I tried long pikes, the enemy cavalry should be running straight at you if you are going to make it work. So i think a really long Romphalia, Schyte/Naginata/Glaive, Voulge, Bill type weapons are better because they will let you swing. Menvalion could be used also but you said you have 2h axe and normal Menvalion (not fine steel, which has very inferior swing damage) has similar reach with 2handed axes.

For real horse killer polearms that is swingable and 300cm long, you have to be invested into crafting tho.

Try a pack of Javelins. The speed of the horseman adds a bonus on to the damage the javelin will do.
You can always switch to melee mode with the javelin if they're getting too close. They're no replacement for a proper polearm but they're not bad for only using up a single slot.

When you actually notice a user being a particular brand of douche in several separate threads in a forum with 30.000 of them... Time to take a break from the interwebs, EnStorEn.

He is, it's a forced break though.. maybe for the best.

A top tier javelin with decent throwing skill will 1 shot any cav coming at you, with a body shot, no headshot needed.
NMGSGaming May 6, 2020 @ 3:59am
A well timed thrust with a spear (not an overhead stab) into the front of the horse will make it rear up allowing you or your men to take the horse or the Rider out. Alternatively, as mentioned, a well aimed Javelin or other powerful throwing weapon will drop them quickly as will well aimed arrows, such as an arrow through the throat. As for which ones...The longer the better, you may want to look into the Longer two hand pikes. Can't remember which faction has those though, possibly the Aseri or Empire. It will take practice to get the timing right, if you thrust too late you'll do minimal damage and get a sword to the face, thrust too early and you'll miss.
