EDIT: I take a character that already has good trade skill, then assign them their own party to lead. after a while, they get good experience as commanders, and i set em on a caravan ;)
you have to get your companion back into your party, then buy another caravan completely. So spend another 15k to get it setup again. Its part of the process, you make money, until it gets captured, then you get your companion back and do it again.
:)
Basically, the 15k upfront cost is for the troops and the goods they want to buy so they can sell them elsewhere. If your caravan gets captured, all of it is obviously gone.
So caravan management is really bad.
When they are captured you have no choice but to find them and give them a caravan to run, every time. No fast remote "go run a caravan again, here's 18k". I just gave up on them after clan tier 3 and opted instead for 4 workshops making me all my money.
If captured yes, you have to let them rejoin your party, and go start from square one, paying another 15k for another caravan, there is no way to let them resume. They need you to pay for mercs and merch to sell so you have to pony up another 15k.
Caravans WILL be captured by even looters. The thing is atm caravans dont replenish their troops, they SHOULD take from their profits to replenish their numbers but they dont.
Every time they are attacked they never replenish their numbers but the latest patch did allow caravans to rest a while longer if they have many wounded troops. Also allowed for them to hire better tiered troops, you know, basic stuff.
Thats a hint to just how bad caravans are at managing attacks from even common looter parties. Its EA.
The work around at the moment is you have to babysit your caravans, check periodically how many men they have and donate more troops to them if they run low.
