What are you doing during field battles?
Do you prefer watching the battlefield and giving orders from a hill position? Or riding with your cavalry jousting enemy knights while your footmen slaughter the enemy? Maybe you prefer to stand with your archers and snipe the enemy, while commanding your troops, what kind of commander are you?

I do not use horses, i go with my infantry to the bloodbath, while keeping organizing my army

I generally give commands until the main line of infantry are close to crashing, then I give my last charge/advance orders and join the fray myself. Sometimes I'll chase enemy cavalry around if they run at us at the start of the battle when their infantry is still far behind

Great! I charge with my fellow footmen, when lines clash I go into berserk stance with my 2h axe and chop chop chop until either I die, or there is no one left to chop, I also throw javelins to any one escaping from me, great fun!

I have 64 arrows, so that's quite a few dead. Then I pull out the polearm and scythe their archers down.

First I command everyone into advantageous positions. Then I personally help protect the flanks from enemy cavalry and/or horse archers. Once the main enemy army closes in and my archers can't stop them on their own, I issue final advance or charge commands (depending on the troop type and situation) and help out in combat myself. Things usually go well on their own, but if my soldiers are doing something stupid, I still correct them. Once the enemy breaks, everyone gets a charge command to finish them off.

EDIT: Oh, I'm always on a horse doing my thing, gotta stay mobile and see better from higher up than a foot soldier.

My preference is to position my troops, then go out to draw the enemy into my trap. Since that sometimes results in me being shot off my horse and my army defaulting to "charge", that isn't always such a good idea. When I do that, it's about me taking out their mounted riders and firing arrows into their formations until they break and come for my guys.

When that doesn't work, I sometimes use the "Follow Me" command and walk up in a line, while my troops pepper the enemy with arrows. That always gets them to advance towards my position. We fire arrows into their faces as they approach, then I order "Charge" just before they close with my shieldwall. That typically breaks their morale in battles where I'm not vastly outnumbered.

At other times, I'll lead my mounted troops to distract and harass the enemy as they approach my shieldwall. Then I'll strafe the field, riding behind their lines, hitting them in the back, taking out their archers, etc.

I press F6 and charge into the fray. Bow and lance. I have no patience babysitting brain-dead troops.

I dont have patience to sit back and use a bow. I like charging in with cav and using polearms to knock out enemy lords at a minimum for moral loss to enemy. Sometimes I'll dismount ( helps with athletics) and run around on foot. OR I'll just keep F2 /F3 with my cav. Rarely do I sit back .

Edit : I will always flank hard L or R and get good verticle overlook of the field as troops move in. Then I find the lords and send cav in to hit flanks

Sit back on the Hill with my Cavalry above my Infantry and Archers/HAs and watch as they get closer and as the shield walls clash then lead my Cav to the flank and Charge the backs of the enemy Archers and Infantry. Havent meet a force with more Heavy Cavalry than me in my new play through so i dont even worry about enemy Cav

Dependends on the fight smaller ones (a couple hundred people so no armys crashing) usualy riding around with my cav intercepting enemy cav or harrasing the enemy
until it becomes dangerous then i sit back and go afk for a bit (cant afford to die since you never know if the ai taking over slaughters your army)

For early armies I've ended up as my own scout and enemy cavalry lure. This wasn't entirely planned, and I'm now reconsidering my entire set-up.

I listen to the AI's orders that pop up at the top of the screen, which means I'm flanking to the left, then pulling back, charging at the archers, pulling back again just before I reach them, attack the spearmen from the front before running back and covering the archers while completely ignoring the melee - oh sorry I'm flanking to the right no- nevermind we're intercepting their cavalry now and oh scratch that we're attacking their spears again and-

When I play cavalry..I ride with the cavalry...

But I've made another character, made her an Archer.. and now I hang back with range... I'm finding that it's easier to control infantry if your directly behind them looking after them then a mile away with the other cavalry...
