It will raise as you complete quests for people.
You can't offer 1 gold as a gift to random nobles and get free xp anymore...
While the 1 gold did seem a little easy it did at least require you to tack down and speak to a lot of lords which felt more right than the current methods of raising it.
version 1.3
1. Gift money to Lords and Ladies. The more money given, the larger the charm bonus, but the bonus rate does flatten a lot after 50,000 gold. I usually gift 20K and nab a level or two when it's early in skill building.
2. Get married. Bargain with your spouse. Leave the item section blank and just 'gift' thin air. You'll get a level of charm every time up to level 50ish. You still get Charm experience when you stop earning levels with a conversation, it's just not enough to raise it up. It adds up, keep doing it.
3. Attack and kill a hideout, BUT, you will get the best Charm bonus by dueling the final boss. Don't say you won't duel bandits or whatever and let your companions/soldiers gang up on them, just duel the boss and win, and you'll get three to four levels early on, up to one level per win in higher level ranges.
4. Minor bonus to Charm experience when you talk to village elders and you politely ask their name. Any other response won't give the tiny bonus. Yes, it's small, but it adds up over time. Sometimes you get bonus rep by being polite to them as well.
But too be fair going up to every lord you see and tossing them a coin was very tedious and not really a good mechanic, not broken or OP, just not a good mechanic.
They just need to add more ways to get more charm reliably if the player wants it, as they did just remove the main source of charm leveling.
