Point to smith companion yet?
Hello, is this something that hasn't been implemented yet? Should I be firing someone?

Lets you have a companion do the heavy lifting in smithing if you don't want to spec into it on your character. Also gives you another character/stamina pool to help with refining high tier metals and forging even if you do spec into smithing.

Though from the way your question is worded, I'm guessing you don't know that you can switch to your companions in the smithy UI at the bottom left? It's not necessarily intuitive, I didn't know about it at first.

Main point of having smith companion is to outsource as much skill as you can. Currently you can outsource following skills without loss in quality:

Quartermaster
Scout
Surgeon
Engineer
Smith

Skills you can't outsource:

Tactics
Leadership
Trade
Charm
Roguery

Current leveling system allow leveling up to level 25, after this any progress will be almost stopped. So you have around 35 Skillpoints to plan for on your main character.

Good commander / ruler need 5 skill points in Tactics, Charm, Leadership, Trade - 20
To be somewhat useful on battlefield you need at least 3 points in one ranged weapon and one melee, let's say Bow and One-Handed - 6 more
To be somewhat mobile on beattlefied you need 3 point in Riding and 3 athletics - 6 more.

Ops, you left with 3 points to spend. 1 point nice to have in Medicine for this nice 10 HP perk, so we have 2 left. Not enough for dedicated smith.

Why is trade important? Or Roguery? I have more than enough skill points before lvl 20.
On current character 4 unused, can't decide where to put them.

Trade important to manipulate fiefs as vassal/ruler, fief trading perk locked at 225 Trade. Roguery not important. I'm not suggesting to take it.

I did not know this existed, you are correct.

How did you come to this value?

As for skills

Riding - 1 focus with some endurance, so you can ride 90 req horses and get the 100 level perk.
Tactics - useless
Leadership - skill itself isnt that impressive, only good perk really is disciplinarian and it doesnt even work without mods
Trade - only useful if you want to go to 225 and buy the map
Roguery - can go without, but ok skill to have for quests or sneaking into towns i guess
Charm - nice skill
Athletics - amazing skill
Smith - amazing skill, levels easy, controllable leveling, has amazing perks for free attributes and focus points

As for attributes

Control and cunning seem really bad would leave at base 2, vigor and endurance are awesome, social and intelligence can use a few points

I come to this value by playtesting and leveling to 22-23 several times. At this point it's easy to predict, how much potential character have left for improvement.

Generally I want to level skills I can't outource to companions.

Trade must have because there is no another way to manage fief distribution as vassal/king.

Tactics and Leadershp is obvious choices for commander. even if they not worth it now, they will be needed later, as game develops.

Endurance is bad, especially if you outsource smithing. So 2 points in riding needed for sure.

Not important but you cant outsource it without much loses.

Well just hire companions and a Smith, let the companions smelt down items and refine charcoal and bars. Use the Smith to craft weapons to level his skill, then someday use him to craft a nice weapon.

Why it's a must? Quartermaster can easly be outsourced without any loss in quality.
