Why dont lords join my kingdom?
I defeated the battanians and after battle released prisoners and am friends with every single one (due to console commands) and almost 100 days later not a single lord has joined me. Is this system just buggy? I've had to convince each lord ive gotten so far.

You have to talk to them and convince them through the mini game. This can be done at any time, even if they are enemies. Some will join without any condition, others have to be bribed. It uses your charm skill, and any traits if you have them.

yeah the only way to to persuade them manually, they don't join you on their own.

so far relations doesn't really do much, i'm sure it's supposed to do many things, but currently it only does a handful of things.

Are you asking why they don't just automatically join you, but you're having no problems convincing them joining?

I never thought about it, just assumed nobody joined me because this game isn't close to being complete especially the kingdom part so yeah they won't join on there own, my kingdom barely registers as a kingdom to the game.
fairly sure when an AI moves to another faction, its because he was invited by an AI lord.

Sometimes Lords also join your empire without invitation.

Yeah, and unlike in Warband where they would appear at a feif you own and you had to approve or reject their request to join you, it just happens whether you like it or not. Seems even mercinaries can just join your faction without you specifically employing them.

But anyway, as you grow in power lords will be more likely to want to join you. The cost of persuading someone to join you will depend on the assets they have to give up. Bribing a lord with several feifs will quickly spiral into the 100s of thousands of denars because they have to give those feifs up to join you. However, if you marry someone when you control a faction, the entire clan that your wife came from will join you, with their feifs in tact. At least, that's what happened to me. Marrying someone makes establishing your kingdom a ton easier (but of course you still have to pick up that first feif to start your faction- usually your best bet is to go after a castle that recently changed hands)

Do they really? Or is this just an assumption based on previous M&B games?

I've never experienced this

I wish lords would show interest in a developing kingdom, and ask to join mine. Especially if we have good standing and I just destroyed theirs lol.

I'm having a new problem with getting people to join. Previously, when a lord is neutral to you you only have an option with 19% success chance at the start of the 'minigame', but you have another option at 44% if you're friends - but now a lord I was rather banking on persuading, with whom I have 24 relation, is also only coming up with the 19% chance opener. Any ideas why this is?

Also it's a shame when, automatically or when convincing people, context isn't taken much into account. Seems you have the same options and chances regardless of the state of the other person's kingdom or, for example, if you're hostile and your army is larger and superior (as you're talking face to face the underlying threat of a battle as an alternative could perhaps come into it). This lord with the fixed 19% opener is even a defector; not with the same culture as the kingdom he fights for, said kingdom is in serious decline, and he isn't even friends with his liege.

The % in the dialogues aren't affected by relationships yet, just your skill relative to how you're trying to convince. Charm, Roguery, Leadership.

I had in my previous game a one man Clan Tier II that joined me without my work, yes
