How to deal vs horse archers

Seriously, putting my melee soldiers with shields into shield wall, doesn't work
square, still dying to arrows despite the fact to hold fire and hold ground
circle, same thing

Any suggestions? ~95(30-35 melee) vs ~95(40 horse archers)

Horse archers are the bane of infantry so keep your expectations low. Just put them in loose formation in front of you archers so they catch a few arrows for them.

Best strategy is to basically send in whatever cavalry you have to slam into the horse archers. Horse archers aren't great at close combat so being a bit outnumbered is okay. The rest of the battle should just play out as normal just without cavalry.

Horse archers are pretty op atm,but u can kill them by hiding behind hills so when they come on top of the hill u charge them.Also have a bunch of ur own archers or cav to kill them.

Hilly/rocky terrain + forest, will make it harder for them to hit you with their bows.

But in order to *kill* them, you'll need either some cavalry off your own, or decently good archers to go with your melee troops.

put your archers in losse formation, put your infantry into shield wall, charge your cavalry. What's the problem? Horse archers will be destroyed fast. What do you exactly want? Win against 40 horse archers without military loss at all?

Use archer and make them go back until they reach the end of the map: the horse will be stopped at your left, allowing your archer to ravage them. If you have cavalry, have fun charging them to make sure they don't run away

horse archers always attack on the left flank from your position and running anti-clockwise around your troops for shooting.

with that in mind they are no problem.

horse archers are the easiest unit to kill and deal with, just put your archers in front and i personally have a 20 horse archers bodyguard companions always fallowing me
so just order archers to front line/
lose formation/
put your self in the front line and at the flank the HA are charging/
place cav at opposite flank wait for them to get raped
you can also charge with your bodyguards to pin them down and prevent routing

Horse archers are the mobile machine guns of the game. You either charge and surround them with cav or infantry, use the terrain to slow them, use a wall of loose archers to mow them down before they start circling you or just sit there while they chew your army down one by one. I mean, horse archers were very effective as used by the Mongols no? XD

Horse archers have a few pros:
They spread out = harder to hit and allmost everyone can hit back
They shoot the nearest target and if that target is in a tight fomration they still hit stuff.
F3+F3 still is very tight in horse archer terms.

Control your cav and cut their envelopment attempt. As they are being cut off from movement order everyone, including archers, to join in the big mess and take down HAs.

(ps) the trick is to "cut off," not chase. Move to a position where they are heading to and converge, instead of running straight toward them and chasing them.

Or just counter horse archer with horse archer.
Plz show a equal number excample in the simulator with infantry only or no more than 20% horses. The only unit with counters horse archers are other horses and they not countering it even well.

like everyone else has said. meet the horse archers with your cavalry in the starting moments of the battle. kill as many as you can personally with your cavalry while you have your infantry and archers move into position ontop of, or behind a hill.

they tell you in one of the nerdy dialogues for the dragon banner quest when the imperials are surrounded by horse archers "archers off horseback shoot better than archers on horseback"

use horse archers against them, have your horse archers follow you,the enemy horse archers try to kite the nearest enemy so circle them opposite of your other troops. you can herd them in to your infantry,archer units.
