What determines loot?

I know it's random, but is lets is there any determining factors for big battles?

I just fought a big battle. 800 vs 700. We won, I survived till the end. I had the highest kills, and went after the more dangerous elite units like cataphracts.

Does the amount of damage, the units I kill, or if I don't get knocked out, determine the amount of loot or quality of loot?

Does it matter whether you're the king, vassal or a mercenary?

I know the game is in early access, but just wanted to know.

It seems like you get more loot if you're there for the whole battle and you get more kills.

I'm pretty sure the greater amount of kills your army gets % wise compared to the armies as whole gets the larger loot distribution. But large battles happen to divide up the loot in an unsatisfying way.

the loot in this game is so bad, there is no way you will make good loot if you have to share it with other lords.
you really have to try fighting your own battles so you get the whole stuff and even then it is just a bunch of trash most of the time.
i wish i had a screenshot but i just took on a 400 men Sturgian army with my 120 soldiers, i lost over half of them and andother 1/4 is wounded and the best item i got was some horse armor worth 1.8k, the rest was a bunch of trash boots and gloves, some tier 3 armors, two ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tier 4 swords, 1 warhorse and 5 normal horses.
together with the raw materials i can make good money from it but there is not a single item worth using or even giving one of my companions.

it seems like the only way to get good armor is buying it, but i would rather get some decent plate armor or maybe a few more good weapons, something i can add to my own equipment, not just a bunch of trash i drop at the market.

back in Warband you even got pretty decent armor from searaiders even without having a high skill for better loot, here i have 75 roguery and it dosn´t help.

A lot of luck. I picked up an imperial cavalry armor (t6 I believe) from some bandits.

I had to do a double take because I was stunned. Usually the best thing to get are those wrapped boots.

No Plate Armour in game.
If you level ypur Roguery skill you'll be rolling in t4-5-6 gear in no time.
I just sold a 13k Piece of armour I looted after a battle and a Horse Armour that was like 20k. Get high kills and have good Roguery Skill and your set

at this point i have roguery 80, sadly there is no companion with a higher skill available in my curent game so i have to skill it myself, but for 80 prisoners i get 1 point so it takes a while.
but even now i get only trash in battles, sometimes i have battles where not a single item is worth more than 1k, i defeated whole armies just to get trash...
like i said in warband you could get good armor from killing searaiders, i don´t say it should be that way but if i beat the army of the vlandian king i should get some decent helmets and armors.

i know there is no real plate armor in the game but i don´t even get chainmails or heavy helmets, just some stuff with maybe 20 points in armor.
my best armor is the "imperial studded Leather" and i am killing armies since 3 irl days...

Thats odd. Usually you get good stuff. I do know they recently Nerfed the loot from battles tho

it feels like they did, my last game wasn´t that bad and i had some decent armors and weapons from post battle loot, thats the main reason why i am so confused because i compare the curent loot to my last savegame and it seems so bad.
but my last savegame is broken which is why i have to grind all that stuff again.

Maybe I haven't started a new save yet thankfully the last one hasn't broken yet. So could be im still getting old values for my loot.
Idk why they would nerf it so much they've already Nerfed so many ways of getting money xd just give us more stuff to spend it on

Seeing as the skills go up to 200+, 80 might not even be considered high.

The Law Speaker policy, gives you -1 influence every day so as long as you have "low" charm, and I had to get my charm to 101 before it was considered high.

I wouldn't bank on that...from my own experience of killing sea riders and cataphracts.
