Best way to raise Athletics?
I just got some imperial heavy armor from a marriage and now I'm a turtle

Fighting on foot is the way to go...just like fighting on horseback is good for riding :D

This will take for ever, been trying to move without a group to take on 10 looters solo, to get more XP too, but damn it's still slow.

Also the tournaments

Doing damage on foot (melee at least) raises it pretty quick. Being naked makes you run faster...
SteakQuesadilla Apr 15, 2020 @ 9:04am
You need to run fast so take off all the armor and fight on foot for a bit

M&B takes time...cant expect instand or quick results...having said that, beta release has adjusted skill increase rates for higher level skills somewhat...and other skills are in need of balancing, so just sit tight while the devs do their thing :D

From what I've noticed, athletics skill increase faster when using a crossbow on foot.

First have to know how you gain Athletics skill:
- Travelling on foot on overland map
- Scoring hits on foot while moving. XP bonuses on kills and higher relative speed

So what would that mean?
Bandit hideouts. Companions with shields and no weapons on 'Shield Wall' formation while you dance around and stab bandits in the back. Make sure you're moving when the hit is scored.

You simply need to do damage on foot.

You can fire a bow.

You can be stationary.

It takes a long time, which is good. Athletics is almoat overpowered.

Btw, did I mention it takes a long time?

Raising Athletics without cheese is painful. It's one of those skills that are easier to actually get experience for as you have more of it.

Athletics XP gain is heavily based on relative movement speed, so weapon length and stabbing are the way to go, because if you get too close either you or your target might slow down and screw up your RMS.

If you're willing to take the risk, cavalry are the fastest units around.

Start with 50 athletics makes it easier. You will need human shields if you want to level athletics from 0. I did it from 10.
You can also kill thugs. Their stats are very weak.
When I was working on blacksmithing, I would clear out gangs to wait a day instead of just waiting a day.

Take off your armor so you move quicker and equip a bow. Then solo looter groups on foot

If you un-equip your horse and run around the map instead of riding it'll raise it as well.

honestly the way this game's pacing is right now if you want to raise skills at a reasonable rate you probably are going to want to download a mod to increase the multiplier. Later on when everything is working and the game lasts a decent amount of time I don't think it will be necessary but currently it's a huge slog
