Crafted Weapon = Civilian Weapon Criteria?
So, I need to know this because it's confusing as hell to me and I can't find a concrete answer anywhere by Googling it.

I tried crafting weapons to increase my skill, and to also craft a weapon I can take into towns that's better than what I have. Some weapons just aren't equippable in civilian outfits without any clear reason as to why.

At the start of the game, I made a crappy 2h sword (I didn't even name it properly, because I didn't know I could). It's called "crafted 2h sword." Once I got better weapons, I moved it to my civilian outfit. Nevermind the fact that I think it's odd you need 2 have specifically 2 sets of weapons as opposed to an available inventory of weapons you aren't using in battle.

So, this crap sword is obviously equippable in civilian form, but when I made another 2h sword with a Tier V blade down the line, it wasn't available to make civilian. I figured "maybe it's the reach?" No. I made another one, 1h (albeit with the same blade, but the grip was smaller obviously). It was still not equippable in my civilian outfit. I made ANOTHER sword, with a tier 5 blade, but it was one with considerably less reach than the ones I had been making, and it STILL wasn't equippable.

So is any privy as to what in the hell makes a weapon available for use in a civilian outfit? Does it just have to suck, or something, since its not reach? I read somewhere even some specific daggers aren't considered civilian, which is insane. Meanwhile I walk into a random tavern in the Battanian area, and I see Arzagos walking around with some golden-♥♥♥ sword. What exactly is the deal?

Depends on the blade type.

Certain blades -- a gladius blade, for example -- are always civilian-compatible, no matter how large you make it, or whether you make it 1h or 2h.

There's a tooltip on civilian equipable weapons and armor if you look closely. I've noticed "fine" quality weapons often have this. Also, gear in blue when you're in your civilian equipment view is not equipable

I've been wondering about it as well and I have no clue. I wish there was a 'civilian' tag on each weapon part visible during smithing, so that you'd know whether you'll be allowed to walk around town with the weapon BEFORE you craft it.

I really wish this crafting ♥♥♥♥ was more clear. I really want to enjoy making and customizing a unique weapon for myself that should be iconic for my hero or my companions.

I don't see any indication for things like this, which one is concealable, which one allows you to hold it in both 1/2h (though I'm assuming it's all the 2h grips for 1h swords). Which lance/polearm grips allow you to do couched charges etc

This also still doesn't really explain why I've read reports of some daggers not even being civilian. I haven't made any myself, because for whatever reason I haven't unlocked any new blades, but I feel like kind of an idiot for wasting fine steel on stuff I can't use for the intended purpose

No, I understand and recognize the icon. It just doesn't appear when youre in the crafting window. The crafting window doesn't show you various things you should be able to see about the resulting weapon you're forging, or whatever properties it might have (like being concealable) based on the parts you've selected.

Also, on an unrelated note I found it kind of funny that as far as civilian outfits are concerned, your hero is equipped with armor in his civilian outfit at the start of the game that he cannot re-equip if he removes it during any of his transactions.

Admittedly, it's a bit clunky.

was gonna make my own thread but ill bump this one instead
has anyone figured out any more civilian parts?

My theory that checked out so far: If the blade is cutting only (no pierce at all), it will be civillian.

And how can I be sure the blade I craft is cutting only?

You look at the blade in the smithing, check it's stats. If it only lists cut/swing damage and no pierce damage, that's that.

The blade type determines if it's civilian capable or not. Thrust/No Thrust doesn't matter (most have both cut and thrust).

The Cavalry Broadsword is NOT civilian equipable.
The Arming swords, Warswords, and Spatha blades ARE civilian equipable.

I can help on the couched charge. When building pole arms you will see on occasion some of them present you with "One Handed Polearm", "Two Handed Polearm" and "Two Handed Polearm" again. That second "Two Handed" is the Couched Lance option, it is just labelled wrong. The Shaft of the polearm seems to determine if it can do this, though some heads seem to exclude that capability regardless of shaft.

The Fullered Long Warsword Blade (tier V) is not civilian.

EDIT: It can be though. Just created a civilian 2h sword with the following parts:
Blade: Fullered Long Warsword Balde
Guard: Long-Armed Guard
Grip: Green Leather Grip
Pommel: Fian's Pommel

When I tried to craft one with Bronze Falx Guard and Extra Long Hide Grip it won't be civilian. When I changed the blade to Long Warsword, it became civilian.

I obviously havent tried this with all blades but I noticed that so far, all the 'civilian' blades have the same 4 or so types of sheaths. In the crafting menu you can view the sheath by pressing a icon in the lower right corner of the 3D view of the weapon you are crafting.

If you look through all the blades(even locked ones) you can see that the blades are divided into different groups and each group of blades uses their own type of sheaths so what I did was craft 1 of each for as many different types of sheaths that I could and as low tier as possible to then see what sheath/blades were 'civilian'... then I made the highest tier blade that used one of those sheathes and yep, they were also civilian.

Was thinking of making a image guide to show which were civilian types but since its EA it felt like a lot of effort for something that might change very soon.

This is the best discussion on the issue I've found yet.
