Is polearm counted as one handed/two handed or just polearm?
The title. My polearm level is 130 already and my one handed and two handed skills are around 40 mainly thanks to tournaments. Did I make a mistake putting points on twohanded and onehanded thinking when I alter how my character holds the polearm would change what boost it gets from passives?

Polearms are polearms, regardless of how its held. The two-handed points are probably a waste, but the onehanded can be useful if you plan on using a shield, or need a shorter sidearm

Polearm is always polearm, no matter whether it's used with one hand, two hands or couched.

Investing in one-handed is never completely wrong, being decent with your close-quarters backup and civilian weapon never hurt anyone.

Polearm and 2h simultaneously seems like a bit of overkill, unless you're going for a lance/2h combo, with 1h/shield as backup/vs arrows.

I'm using a shield. If I have the shield equipped does it get any bonus from one handed?

Where I have found polearm 2h mode useful is on horseback when nobody is shooting at you. For example when you chase a rider away from the troops you can simply 1hit KO it no matter what armor it has.

so i dont know if it's intentional or has been fixed but when using a polearm 2 handed i have noticed that i will get the knockdown effect from 2handed (without purchasing in polearm tree) and of course the effect does not work while using a polearm 1 handed. again i dont know if this is a bug, a mistake, or if this even applies to all skills. but some skills are definitely crossing over, i have not tested this crossover with thrown weapons being used for melee but i would assume the same goes for that

In my book, points in all the Vigor weapon skills are never really a waste, as I end up getting them all anyway after getting the Social and Intelligence skills I want. Five focus points per skill is not a lot to waste. Handy for tournaments, and you never know when you want to switch weapons depending on what you get.

Shield and 1h skills work simultaneously and independent of each other.
