also garrison troops consume a lot of food
Thanks for the tip.
If the area around your castle and villages are free from hideouts and large groups of bandits you also get a +5 food for "Lands around settlement". If you hover over the food icon you can see what is effected by.
I usually go for policies that strengthen the milita and only have high tier garrisons since the milita serves as the mob.
You cannot give food to your fiefts dirrectly as of 1.1 beta. and anything before.
At the moment the fiefs management system is separated from you armys management system.
Hope this helps a little.
If your castle is on the battlefront, just expect basically no food till the end of the war, your villages contribute the most to your fiefs food level (selling food doesnt affect it as far as i know) So if they get burnt down there goes your food
I don't know if it is true, but someone suggesting selling the type of food they make (i.e. fish to fish producing village) will give you keep a bump in food production.
In my games wars never end, mercenary lords always loot and starvation is the normal broken state of the game.
If you go to the clan/kingdom tab-> go to fief -> click the settlements then hover your mouse to the foods stat. you can see the attributes affecting it. mine was going negative because I stock the garrisons more than the city can afford. ended up in starvation which reduce prosperity.
1. Don't get a castle with two non-food producing fiefs, it will always have starvation issues.
2. Max out gardens as soon as possible
3. Take out entire garrison, yes 0 garrison will make it more attractive to AI to do a drive-by siege
4. Defend your villages from being pillaged
5. (cities only) Buy out all food in nearby cities and sell it in the market, it will give +food bonuses
6. Sell food to villages, if they normally make grain, selling more of it to them will give +food bonus to your castle.
7. Assign correct governor - make sure you pick skills/traits carefully as governor can have both positive AND negative effects on food production.
