What now? Taking a castle is impossible.
I finished the quest and got to rank 2, I have my merry little army and been looking for a weak castle, there are none, unlike my last game which I gave up on because I did some stuff wrong this game is very evenly balanced and everyone is poking and being a chicken, huge armies everywhere and trying to take any castle I have seen is suicide.

Should I just go the vassal route? .. frankly tired of biding my time waiting for an opening.

There is literally nothing to do apart from killing bandits.

Wait you're mad you can't start your own country right off the start? Even in Warband it took a bit of effort without meta.

Join a faction or build up your own army until you can take a castle? :/

I do not understand your complaint. Rank 2 clan is barely the start of the game. OF-course you can;t take a castle by yourself with sixty men.

I am not mad and it took me a long time to get to where I am, I don´t know how to make money, so it´s been a drawn out afair killing stuff to get my army supplied. I also don´t know how to melee, tried the arena and kept at it but can´t seem to get any better.

So, I killed TONS of bandits, got some cash .... I am in no way right at the start.

So, kill more bandits until I reach rank 3?

Clan tier 2 is basically the start. Either vassal out or become a mercenary, your options are pretty limited till later on.

Kill bandits/looters. Trade stuff in cities, do quests.

You got choices to make. Keep grinding, be a hired blade (merc), do some trading (caravans), tournaments, board games for cash and anything else you can think of.

If you want to be your own kingdom, find a faction that is severely on the brink of death/losing in a war and see if they'll pay you insane money to be a mercenary. The highest they'll pay you is 300 denars PER group you kill, so if you go around fighting people they're at war with and take out massive groups, you'll get paid BANK. The first faction that offers 200+ denars I would take in a heartbeat. This is extremely viable now because even when you talk to the faction leader about leaving the faction as a mercenary, it doesn't damage relations anymore. Then you can go to the other side you were pummeling the hell out of and be their mercenary to maintain the balance and still likely get paid insane amounts lmao. While I do this, I always usually release the lords I fight after combat so they come back at me shortly with like an army of 80 recruits and just get annihilated again and allow me to get paid another whatever I'm being paid and I level up my troops more in the process.

All while being a mercenary, max out your companion capacity, equip them with the best stuff you can possibly get as soon as possible and make them their own lord under your clan to wander around with you or in a combined army with you so you can get leadership really easily because leadership plays a huge importance later when you have your own kingdom. I'm doing a playthrough right now with this strategy and the factions are all pretty balanced because I'm not letting any one of them get too powerful with whoever they're at war with and usually the losing side is willing to pay me insane money to help them, especially since they're probably people I released after combat consistently and really like and respect me.

Long story short Mercenary for big money----->destroy enemies, release them, capture forts, get paid BANK------>Join the opposing factions when they're getting too weak to prevent critical mass from one faction------> Repeat------> Buy top of the line everything for yourself and your companions--------->Make companions their own lords under your party to get leadership------->make more bank--------> when decked out enough in money and equipment, start your own faction by warring with the faction you like the least :D

Just be a merc and join the open field battles. Do some trading while you are walking around the map.

I wouldn't recommend starting siege until at least tier 4, because you'll need the party size to do it well.
