Best/Cheapest way to get war horses
Ok so im building an Aseri mameluke army, and ive hit a point where 90% of my troops need war horses to upgrade. I can find like 1-2 war horses in some cities but they cost 1K each. Ive tried steppe bandits but they only drop horses. So where can I get some war horses for my army? ive got 170K gold so i can spare like 20-30K but I cannot find a good amount anywhere, I tried khergit cities.

Sorry, I don’t think I have the solution for you to get war horses, I feel like I’m in the same boat.

Buying war horses is a pain in the ass, I got imperial chargers for prices between 390 and 1100, but they are rare, other war horses cost even more regularly.

The way I got most of my war horses is fighting other lords. Of course that is very random and depending on the troops they use. If I was lucky I got up to three imperial chargers.

Thats basically what im doing right now. I can sometimes get 1-3 war horses but it isnt a very sustainable method due to losing units while doing it. I have the money, its just not easy to find them at all.

Start fighting a random faction with high lvl troops you should win most fights iv reached having over 800 horses from just wiping enemy armies out with my army. Worked for me so idrk

Raid villages, enslave merchants, rob the caravans and just buy the horses with your blood money

just get to the point where money is no longer important...then you can blow it on anything and everything

I'm also playing pure cavalry. It is darn expensive and hard to build. The money can be solved easily enough. But the problem was the lack of warhorses supply.

I eventually took to the sable enabler mod so I can build a stable workshop, which produces warhorses. Or you can try to mod the native sandbox module. There's the stable workshop which has been commented out.

the imperial charger is the cheapest iirc, at around 600 denari.

You may be a tad early game for a full army of war horse using units. Not only will it cost alot to get the warhorses but those higher tiers will start to really have an impact on income. I wouldnt recommend it unless you already have passive positive income, at least 400 denari a day worth. Id wait for more myself, its not hard to set up a few caravans and workshops and get to +3000 or more denari a day.

One workshop/caravan makes it easier to get the next, and so on.
I am well aware you can buy horses, the issue is they only usually have 1 or 2 WAR horses. The ones you need for the higher tier upgrades. Not any horse, a war horse. I have over 500K at this point and I do go around the map buying a horse from each town but I was wondering if there was a better way.

Mountain bandit cav (highwayman) use imperial charges...use a small party and you should grab a couple a fight.

Thats how I outfitted my army of 150 cav troops.

It didnt take long. Though as a trader I typically go town to town anyway. On new saves I buy them whenever I see them, if at a fair price, looking at you aserai at 3k each. They build up.

Other than hitting towns, and fiefs that produce horses (they seem to have at least one or two) I dont know.

I don't believe there is a cheap way, unfortunately. Mamelukes are elites for a reason, after all! Particularly with horses being rarer loot drops these days, I find my best bet is to buy them, and they're both rare and expensive everywhere I look.

Game limits you in a way that you cant train elite cavalry when you're just a broke wanderer.
But! Everything is cheaper in villages. Check the horse breeding villages. As Chillum says Imperial Charger is the cheapest one. If im not wrong campaign starting area, the training field, surrounded with villages that produces horses.

Another idea; get khuzait nomads and with standard horses level them into horse archers, you map speed will increase. Keep your party below 20 and farm steppe bandits for horses.

I've been playing a lot with my bandit king playthrough and I make rounds through all the cities and the villages that produce horses. I haven't raided any horse producing villages yet but i'm aiming to try that next as i'm in the same boat.

Also, If you end of taking over a fief and you own the adjacent settlement, then if the village is doing well it might pump more warhorses into the market. There are also might be some village enhancements that might be possible through upgrades at your keep.

Would be nice if one could add pins to the map w/ custom labels.

e.g. mark a village as offering rare recruits (like 'noble line' troops c/o a powerful friendly notable), having horses, etc.
