Mercenary or Vassal?
Which is better? I have never tried one or the other, i am almost clan tier 3 and have an army of 98, 31 imperial bucellarii, 30 vlandian sharpshooters, 19 vlandian sargents and 16 vlandian banner knights, which took me really alot of time to assemble and upgrade.

I also have 3 caravans and 3 workshops running and the profits i made from this could possible be enough for another 150 similar troops.

Unless you plan to join another faction, you should become a vassal instead of a mercenary.

Mercenaries don't get any fiefs, unlike vassals.

I want to join Vlandia, if i became a Vassal do i automatically get a fief? Do i have to siege other factions towns or castles to get one? I never played warband i really don't know how Bannerlord works but it's a fantastic game

from my experience mercenary is pointless when you can become a vassal and gain "king's support" income which is a steady one compared to mercenary that has to win battles to get any income.

Thx guys i will become a Vassal then, have a good day you both.

In warband you got an automatic village fief that gave you some income, in Bannerlord from what I see it's replaced with king's support income at the start that gives you some income. In order to get fiefs you need to get support for that in the council. You can improve relations with lords and that's supposed to give you better chances of lords nominating you for fiefs. Later while gaining more influence you can nominate yourself and have a chance to get some fiefs.

Being mercenary sucks in term of kingdom mechanics. You are constantly losing influence. And while you are paid for each battle depending on how much of influence you are recieving in result, the income from fief (as long as it's not constantly raided and under sieges) just way better.

Being a mercenary is just another way to acquire money, it's allows you to join lord battles (which mean great loot from enemy lord), raid villages with smaller consenquences and being both shielded and payed.

So i became a vassal and my influence is expecting to be -2, -1 from lawspeakers and -1 from sacred majesty, what does this mean? How do i turn it to positive?

Eh, it's mean that you goint under constantly if you are not fighting in arena and battles, because you don't have +influence from perks and other laws. Bad luck.
Likely the situation will change, because lords don't like such laws and can vote to rewoke it.

He had a long road...
Tier 3 is possible to reach from hunting bandits (so long as you are not making your party too big) and winning tournaments. And quest give you some too.

And you have the advantage of not being affected by the factions' petty-assed squabbles. You workshops are safe and your caravans only have to worry about bandits and looters.

If I am playing as a trader, I generally avoid joining a faction as a mercenary or vassal just for the freedom of movement it gives me.

Of course, I am always on the lookout for a town that has just recently changed hands. I'll try to grab that to establish a profitable base of operations, then immediately sue for peace with whomever I took it from.

No faction attacks you if you are not a part of another faction.

Actually they can declare war on you. It's just player with single city is so low priority on their list so it's likely to happen never.

I've run several play-throughs with anywhere from one to three towns (no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ castles) and I have never been attacked as long as I was unaffiliated. I can set a party or two to run around knocking off bandits, then I can head off on a trade run with full confidence my fiefs will still be there when I get back.
