archery in butterlord = noobs.
Of course you could go for both - throwing for open battles and switching to archery for sieges.
Bow is nice if you want to kill alot and are happy with only one other weapon
If you are part of the shieldwall, why not have some thrown stuff for ranged options,
you can also swap it to melee to have some defense when being surprised.
If you lead your battanian heroes, grab a bow and let it rain.
Both profit from having troops with the same equipment, so you can refill your ammo.
Throwing if you have a free slot but kind of want something for if they are out of range.
Throwing if you want to laugh as your enemies get thrown 5m back on death animation and one shot horses/horsemen charging you. (no focus point investment needed)
Archery if you want to be tryhard min/maxer for the entire battle. (2-3 focus point investment needed)
Xbow if you enjoy watching idle animations and being an operator. (no focus point investment needed)
So the factor really is time; time before the melee starts. If that's not very long, thrown weapons, maximise damage in as little time as possible. If its long, like if you are running with many horse archers, or are in a siege, you might as well do archery yourself.
