I have my companions with a Vouge (poor mans 2h axe that kills 1 hit with 0 skill) , best bow, and 2 sets of arrows.
Let them loose right at the start of a battle and watch the AI get all confused.
No shield. Massive DPS from a charge.
Third and Forth Slot: 2x throwable (for everyone) or Xbow and Bolt (only useful for companions with "reload any Xbow on horse" feat in XBow skill tree)
Shields are important.
A cool factoid most wont know. If you drop your banner, like to get a shield, it stays upright. You actually plant it.
Found out after to switching to one of my kids after I died in a siege assault. When I got to top of wall I switched to a shield and the banner stood upright on the wall.
Great idea. Use them as tanks. That would also be cool with the banners.
I'm so lazy. I fantasize about setting up all these cool sub groups and using them really carefully -- like shield infantry, fodder, heavy, shock troops etc.
I always end up just flakning with my cav and horse archers, advancing my archers and then sending in all my inf at once as we slam into their rear.
Getting boring. I'd like to try fancier infantry deployment. My 12 immortal super heavy armored heros would go great in a shield wall.
yeah that does seem to be the quickest kill. my Sturgian Hardened Brigands seem to like it. order the infantry and ranged to Stand Your Ground, have the cav follow me around their left flank (our right), get their lines to start stringing themselves out, then charge.
but because all i care about is riding through that mess with my spear and javelins at near full gallop, i'm glad for the simplicity
I got my horse killed the other day and joined my front line. I was only a little banged up. All my calvary and horse archers were still solid, so I lined up my HA with my ground archers and told my cav to go long.
I was able to order skirmishing and time the charge of my infantry so well down there on the ground. It was totally exciting to be on the ground.
Id love to be on the ground and send in a bunch of imperial recruits to just sink or swim then circle with some berzerkers and falxmen....would be fun to try complicated ground tactics.
dude, that's just cold blooded. jk
