Camp?
I admit that players didn't likely use the original intent of that feature very often in Warband and most mods, but I do remember using it now and then. One of my most memorable battle experiences came after setting up a Camp to block access to an area and to encourage an Army to attack me while I was in a "Fortified" position.

It was a pretty darn neato experience... I had a Camp area surrounded by barricades on a slight rise against an army of mounted units. (Could have been "Floris" now that I think on it.) They had difficulty assaulting me through the narrow opening in the barricades and I slaughtered them wholesale because of that well defended position.

Player wins battle by using game knowledge to overcome adversity = priceless gaming experience

So, why isn't that a feature in Bannerlord? It seems fairly simple - Just a Battle Scene.

If it was unlocked under the Tactics Skill progression, somewhere after One Step Ahead, or under the Scouting Skill, after Investigator (maybe, or maybe just before it) then the player would have to unlock it since it could be a pretty valuable Perk/Ability.

Maybe split its value? Under Scouting, the placement of the actual barricaded camp would be on a hill on the player's side of the battlefield scene. Under Tactics, you wouldn't have to have anything other that One Step Ahead unlocked to be able to place your troop's starting position on that "hill." So, in that situation, there'd be a sort of synergy the player could take advantage of to make achieving the full benefits of that ability a bit more difficult.

Opinions?

(And, if you never used the Camp feature in Warband or mods to set up a defended position and lure an enemy to attack you, it's understandable... few players did. But, it was a pretty cool feature, nonetheless. :))

what camps? i played warband and got no idea what ur talking about lol

It was an option to spend time in one spot and build a camp. Some mods expanded on the concept to allow you to entrench and fortify the spot too.

Cool idea.

I also liked the camp feature. It wasn't even just from mods, a camp feature was in the base game. Even M&B fire and sword had a camp feature.

I was hoping we would get a hideout feature similar to what the viking conquest mod had.

Didnt fortified camps only come in in fire and sword?
not sure i think they came with mods or in the later parts

Anyway yhea i think they would be a good idea especialy seeing how the map currently has some small areas you could basicaly blockade with it and it would help spice the whole tactical side up a bit more (and it does have a bigger focus in here then it had in warband)

Still i would guess its gonna take a while until it comes into the game

Don't feel bad. Not a lot of players made use of that feature. But, as indicated above by positive testimonials, some few did.

It was a cool feature. I recommend you load up an old save in Warband or a Mod and try it out for funsies... If you do, I expect you'll come back and confirm how cool it actually is. :)

You had Field Battles in Warband.
You had Siege Battles in Warband.
You had DefendTheVillageZOMGZ battles in Warband.
You had Bandit Hideout fights in Warband.
You had Town/Castle Rescue The Prisoner/Assasination fights in Warband.
You had Tavern fights in Warband.

But many players seem to forget they could have a Camp Battle, too, and fight a Field Battle from an Entrenched Defensive Position.
I miss the mods for camp. Like the ones that allowed you to farm up resources to upgrade it into your own town or castle and start your own kingdom without taking someone elses land.

Which mod was that? 1256 or whatever? (Can't remember, but know I never played it. It had a lot of RPG-Base-Building stuffs in it, yes?)

I miss the skill books more then the camp (You selected your book in the camp menu hence why I mentioned it). The camp option was just basically waiting in an area.
Krono Apr 10, 2020 @ 11:11am
It was nice just for waiting, and also for reading the books that you'd get. It feels weird to just stand around while waiting for a siege or something to happen now

would the fortifications carry on over to the field battle if ur camp was attacked?

Yes.

That was the originally intended purpose for a "Camp" (AFAIK) other than to boost healing rates. Most mods, however, used the Camp menu as a place to put a ton of their "Option" toggles. :)

You could set up a camp and after xx period it would be fully "fortified." If an enemy army attacked you while you were in that camp, the battle scene would have your army defending a fortified position, generally of stakes driven into the ground and some flimsy wooden walls to block some arrow fire and the like.

Something like building Forts in the Total War series, if you're familiar with that.

And, I could be misrembering original Warband content and just be remembering something that was in a mod I played a good bit.

But, the experience was pretty unique in Warband play, which is why I'd like to see it in Bannerlord.

If it's not in the release, someone is going to mod it in as soon as they figure out how to dynamically generate a custom battlescene from the campaign map. :)

I liked the camp system in Viking Conquest and was disappointed when I saw it was not available in Bannerlord.
Morkonan Apr 11, 2020 @ 6:56pm
Well, if it doesn't make it to release, then we can always look to mods for it. :)
