besides maxing out the skill focus and upping the stat block, there is not many ways, some skills progress, frustratingly, slower than others. like medicine and scouting

Only by trading. But you wanna buy stuff a good tactic is to buy all the "dates" from all the villages and towns in Aserai desert area. They usually sell for double outside Aserai lands. But there are other supply routes, like ore up north. But the more you can buy up and sell at a profit the faster your trade exp will raise, without cheating of course.
Also having a party of at least 30 calv troops helps in keeping looters away and keeping you fast on the map for quicker trips. So you can trade uninterupted.
You'll never get to 225 on any stat without mods. But the best way to do it is to find a city that just got seiged and sell them food.

You'll make bank.

I got 241 Steward without mods.

can confirm, hit smithing of 260 without mods. had a 7 in vigor and complete focus in it, but i found that making 1 1/2 handed swords is one of the most broken things in the game. sometimes you can get 6-8 points from one sword, and it'll be worth more than the entire town bank.

Uh, my current playthrough (~50 hours on 1.4.2) has 7 skills over 225. More if you count the companions/wife/children.

As for trade 225, the normal way is to just buy low/sell high. The prices depend a lot on your patch, since 1.4.2 economy is messed up and requires serious effort to get 225 (doable, I've personally done it). This will likely take anywhere between 20 (actively looking for trades)-40 hours (just trading at nearby cities whenever you get the chance) real-time based on how much effort you spend on trading and how well you know the potential price differentials.

The fast way to get trade 225 requires you to have millions of gold that you can afford to lose. Essentially, you abuse the fact that trade XP is determined by some equation that is roughly along these lines: Trade XP = (price of each stack of golds sold - price of last good bought for each stack) * some multiplier
This means you can inflate the price of something by buying all of the stock at a certain city, then buy a cheap one at another city (thus making the stack all seem as if it was bought for the cheap price), then sell it at the inflated price city. You will lose a ton of money... but you can hit 225 trade in a couple hours real time.

Kinda hate how Skyrim popularized "level by use" of skills. The concept is nice, but in practice it just adds frustration to most games as allot of skills simply are not engaging to grind.

I long for the day when games shift back to a overall pool that you then allocate upon leveling. This game has a rather odd blending of the two, but that does not fix the issue of some skills being garbage to level.

Agreed and I feel like mount and blade doesnt need grind in the skills to be immersive.

I use a mod, Caravans give xp. That way i can level trade up by you know, being a caravan owner. Its made it way less of a headache but still takes time to level up.

I think the solution, assuming taleworlds keeps this current system, would be to add a larger selection of ways to earn exp for each skill. That mixed with exp rate adjustments would go along way.

Iv had several responses in the past saying "your not supposed to be great at most skills, its a multi generational game!" but i honestly dont see it, everything can be done in one generation, and even assuming they add enough content to justify continued play for that long (rebellions, invasions, civil wars) it still sounds like a bad idea to bottleneck progress. So i have to grind for a long time, die, then grind it all back up? If that is there intention, its a odd one.

Don't forget that the game's perk tree is currently incredibly incomplete--large chunks of the perks are simply declarative in the code as of 1.4.2, especially non-combat skills. Honestly if it wasn't for that trading settlements perk, I wouldn't even bother with trade, as making money is so stupidly easy to do with a little bit of charcoal, a bunch of looted weapons, and some patience.

Try to get as many cavalry that you can find, buy lots of mules to have huge carrying capacity.
You should be able to have easily over 20k capacity.

Trade XP is all about the biggest amount of bulk trading as possible.
Size 100+ Armies for Trade is ideal

Don't bother doing nickle and diming, You need to be trading over 500 goods at a time.

Plenty of stats can easily reach over 200, hell 300 without mods.
Tho some are borderline impossible.

you can get to smithing level 200 in a week in game if your lucky with part unlocks, iv been well over 200 in riding, all 3 forms of melee fighting, stewardship, and archery before.

The problem is allot of skills have horrid exp gain and only 1/2 activities that grant exp for them.

I use this and also another mod that gives faster exp overall. It's still only around 150-60 though. I'm sure they'll redo the trade skill at some point though, I feel like exp from caravans should be native.
