they pop up either way, so you can get at least a few thousand denar out of it
or let them straighup go and don't capture them to increase your charm skill
Keeping lords prisoner is a good way to keep them out of the fight during a war. Less lords means less manpower on the field. The rate of which they escape is somewhere between 1 to 10 days as far as I can tell. I had 11 lords stuffed into my dungeons at one point and they escaped in ones or twos over a 10 day period.
I don't think releasing them out in the wild would do much because I think they just respawn at their closest allied settlement or in one of their owned settlements, regardless if they are released or ransomed. That is whats been happening in my game at least.
