Depends on what you understand by this. Some might say that its one of the most "open" games out there. However, like Lysimarkos said above, its not open world in the same way that Witcher or Skyrin are
No, you travel via the world map and can only play in 3rd person while in cities / villages / castles / taverns / etc. but most importantly at the moment, combat.
Check more videos, i can't recomment any unfortunately but a video explaining what its about should be hard to find
You cannot ride from another town in first or third person, most of the moving is made on the world map and you fight/interact with NPC's/wander in town in third-person, on maps.
In M&Bs gameplay, that would be extremely unreasonable and take forever.
You don't fast travel exactly though.
You and your party move on the overworld map as a piece (movespeed determined by several factors.)
When you encounter other parties or visit villages, castles, and towns, you load into a scene.
(Not always needed though.)
At any given moment, there are tons of parties moving around that would make 3d travel impractical. The massive map never stops without the player, it is entirely persistent. The only difference is the change the player can have the power to make.
-There are tons of peasants transporting village goods to their nearest town, then back.
-There are caravans buying in towns, and traveling across the map buying and selling in other towns.
-There are bandits preying upon peasants, villages, caravans, and even very weak lords.
-There are lords roaming the map recruiting, feasting, patrolling, defending, attacking, resting, campaigning.
-In the first 2 games of the series, there are small bands of Manhunters that hunt for bandits. (They should really return here.)
If you guys wanna really see what M&B is like firsthand, you can download a DEMO on Steam for both the original, and Warband.
Warband is currently 5 dollars, very complete, backed by a massive modding community with 10 years worth of content, and enjoyable for several hundred hours at the very least.

Try it.
