!!!CRITICAL!!! Caravans don't provide Trade XP
As the title says, Trade Caravans don't seem to provide any experience at all. I've confirmed this by looking at my XP for about 4-5 days (lost track) and it staying at the same value even though I have three caravans that are profitable.

Additionally, it seems I don't gain any from personal trading either. I used to, but I did two profitable trades to check, and my XP value didn't change. This could be something on my end, but I've seen things mentioning that saving between buying and selling the goods may cause an issue with the game forgetting things, and if this includes the autosave then it's a pretty big issue.

I should note that I have a SOC of 4 and 4 focus points in Trading, so it's not a matter of me bumping up into an XP wall. I should be gaining X 5.74 XP and I'm at 52 points out of 150 possible before the wall.

I think this is a rather critical thing since if you want to play the trading game, this would just stonewall you like it is doing to me.

Other then that, just wanted to add a huge thanks for how damn good this game is otherwise!

P.S Oh, I almost forgot. Since I'm writing this anyway and I can roll this into one easy spot, I do want to add that I think Workshops should also provide either Trade or Steward XP. Probably not a lot, but a little bit would make sense since it includes both managing and affecting trade in the area.

yes the caravan stuff doesn't work but the profitable trading does you just need to trade for higher amounts

Not gaining even 1 XP on a 5-10k trade seems rather odd. I know that the amount of XP you need to level increases, but the base value for gaining XP should be the same. I used to gain XP even on smaller profits in the 500-1k range, but not any longer.

EDIT: I just managed to move the XP bar with a pretty tiny trade of some 100-ish denars, so it's likely some other background issue.

alright now try the same trade with a caravan that doesn't reduce its prices after 10 items

Just adding my previous edit for ease:

Also, I'm well aware of how a market works mate. I don't run the same route with every caravan because of how you devalue items. The game also literally tells you when you start to flood the market by the decreasing price.

Trade doesn't seem to increase for the companions that lead caravans either...

I forgot about that. Thanks for adding it. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be because it doesn't matter much or it's ignored in their trade margins or something similar.

The companions I have running my caravans have no points in SOC or Trade, which I think implies that it doesn't matter. I have as of yet not found a companion with points in SOC or Trade as a matter of fact.

You can always put focus points into them and waste your points that way.

the update a few days ago added more companion variations they will only come on new games tho also.

You didn't understand what i meant, i was talking about how you can level your trade skill faster if you sell directly to caravans around cities because the price of the items don't decrease if you sell to them straight away so you can get way more experience and money.

i know caravans trade XP is broken 70% of the perks in the skill tree are as well anyway

Ah, righty then. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you meant the caravan as in my caravan led by my character. I blame being a little distracted. :)

Hadn't thought about selling it to caravans. It sounds kinda odd that a caravan would pay more then a city since I imagine they are also trying to profit. Sounds kinda exploity.

And I am thinking of starting a new game thanks to that. My current game is kinda buggered anyway with the north empire already owning 50% of the map and I have basically just gotten started in M&B terms.

I know this is an old post but I thought I'd chime in.

When I go to a town I start by just trading commodities, I believe it is the (misc) tab while trading. I sell my commodities that have prices shown in (red). You gain trade experience for selling commodities for a higher price than you bought them. After selling, I buy all commodities that have prices shown in (green).

... and I travel from town to town.

An old thread, to be sure, but trading is still fubar in that says you get trading points from caravans, and you most definitely do not.

Only way to raise trade skill is to buy something, then sell it for more money someplace else.

Nothing else works.
The issue with not getting XP from trades may be a result of saving and loading. The game doesn't remember the price you bought the item for during a save/load, so if even if the trade is very profitable for you, you don't get any XP because the game doesn't *know* it was profitable.

Whatever the issue is -- whether it is caused by saving and loading or by the phases of the moon, both of which are ievitable, it needs bloody fixed.
