Imperial or Empire

How do you tell who belongs to who?

Ok so colors are what to look for. But tbh i dont know what colors are Imperial or Empire. Is there a listing in the encylopedia or something that tell you who is who? I am new to warband. Never played any other versions.

You can hover your mouse over a town and the popup will tell you what faction owns it.

But how do you tell what side the faction is?

you can see the them in the kingdoms category in teh encyclopedia.

however the 3 empire factions (western empire, northern empire and southern empire) are the ones in the middle of the map where you start at after the character creation. they are surrounded by other factions in all directions.

Ok so looking at the map i see this castle belongs to Faction Battania. But that does not tell me if there Imperial or Empire. And by the way i'm not trying to be silly or stupid. Im trying to get a castle and join the empire per the quest details.

the 3 empire factions names are: westen empire, northern empire and southern empire.

everything with a different name is not a imperial faction.

battania is the faction in the mountains at the western side of the map, the green one inbetween vlandia (red) and sturgia (blue)

This. They literally have to have "Empire" in their name to be considered an Imperial faction.

Looking further. are the empire (Northen Empire,Southern Empire and Western Empire) and Imperial (Aserai,Battania,Khuzait,Sturgia and Vlandia)?

No. Northern Empire, Southern Empire and Western Empire are all parts of the Empire *AND* they are the Imperial factions.
Everyone else is independent.

Empire AND Imperial: Northern Empire, Southern Empire, Western Empire

NOT Empire, NOT Imperial: Vlandia, Battania, Sturgia, Khuzaits, Aserai.

I mean it isn't that confusing; north, west and south empire factions are the 3 empires and they're imperial. If you recruit from their villages, you will get imperial recruits.
