PSA how to skirmish
I made a thread few days ago asking how to put archers to skirmish mode. Some suggested transferring command to AI.

It seems that putting archers on "advance" (not charge) puts them on skirmish mode.

I observed their behavior. They advance and then retreats while firing if enemies approach too close.

However, use this at your own risk in large battles, or if you don't mind to manually set them to where they face and where they stand.

The reason for that is because of flanking enemy cavalry. Skirmish also destroys archers' formation. Their charge drives archers further away from your own infantry to provide cover fire.

You can work around this by setting the archers at a flank away from enemy cavs, and set a fixed position and then advance when your infantry is about to engage enemy infantry.

Does anyone even manually command their army? I find I'm too busy drive by stabbing tbh.

I do but only cause I'm new so I don't have much to command yet. How do I turn the unit when giving it move orders?

Yeah if you are playing at a high difficulty, in large battles. Although tactics are somewhat flawed in this game and needs more work, it is far more effective than have everyone just charge blindly. Especially if enemy army is a defender on a field, because they seem to cluster a lot and it gets really bad for the attackers.

This is also good if you got horse archers. Good harassment tactic..

You can manually set where they face. I think it's f2 and f2

If you put them on charge, don't they circle the enemy, firing from distance anyway? How does it differ if you set them to advance?

F2 and F1 lets you set a direction. F2 and F2 lets you tell them to automatically face the enemy but sometimes that will put them in a weird position if the enemy force isn't all together
