War horses and other items become incredibly expensive
ive been on a game for a while now, tbh i usually restart when i get bored or realize that ive screwed up my char skills. but now that im actually playing one campaign for a time ive come to realize how incredibly expensive warhorses become. to the point that deploying a Sturgian Druzz Champion costs me over 3500 gold...... is this for real? thats not all... you could go to every single horse producing villa and the most youll find is 2 horses, which apparntly are so good that you need to trade their weight in gold (at one point i had to pay 3500 Gs for ONE horse), only to lose them to a damned looter band in autocalc.

anyone else having this same issue?

edit: ive been thinking for a while now that the sturgians going to war with so many kingdoms and keeping the entire continent in a non stop state of war has caused my game to have incredibly inflated prices as well as very few places where to get enough food for a 300+ army. (except fish....like no one in calradia eats fish)

ive decided to just export and import my char in a new campaign and see if anything changes.

You can do that?! I have 2 bugged games (well AI going visibly nuts) and don't want to grind tourneys and looters again in newbie hell.

How do you import/export?

I have never had that issue because I know better than to risk my T5 and T6 troops and their war horse using autocalc on anything, let alone looters.

For cheaper war horses, look east and south.

I am 25 years into the game and can confirm you are just looking in the wrong places. Supply and demand. Other lords will buy up a lot of war horses for their own troop upgrades which raises the price. Just going east or south isn't always the best option if that's where the wars and all the other lords are buying there horses massively increasing demand and thus price. I was buying Aserai war horses for about 2800 a piece and maximum 1-2 in each market when I was at war in the south, but then I went northwest where my faction had full control, no lords around because they were all south/east fighting the great Khuzait war, and over in those peaceful lands where no other lords were buying them I could get Battanian thoroughbreds for about 700 gold with the markets flooded with like 8-10 horses in each town.

It's the same with everything, not just horses. In areas where there are active wars being fought, military items are much more expensive due to high demand. It's good for trade, you can go and buy a bunch of cheap armor at the far end of a kingdom that is at peace, and then bring it to the frontlines of a war and sell it at a huge markup. That's where I normally make my starter money.. Arena fights for 250 gold till I hit 2000, then buy up a bunch of cheap weapons and sell them to a faction that's at war for almost 150% profit.

Yes, but that late into the game I am obscenely rich and can afford to buy them.

Yes, Aserai Horses cost 1800g in villages that produce them. I used to buy them for 600-900g in the first months of my save game. It's the year 1091 now. The bigger problem is there's not enough of them as money is more abundant than sand in the desert. When I buy them from cities I usually pay up to 3500g for the last horse on the market (Aserai lands, obviously). A Desert Horse is now 100-120g vs 80 at the start of my game. Inflation, brothers

You can sometimes win an Aserai warhorse from tournaments but only in the South. In the North you can do tourneys in Battanian cities for Battanian warhorse, worth keeping an eye out when you're visiting. You can win (or lose) a tournament there in under a minute because all fights are with 2 handed weapons so people die in 1-2 hits, very quick fights

Yeah it gets exspensive in Sturgia to get horses. Much better in Khuzuait/Vlandian/Empire/Asarai lands. Sometimes I find em in stacks of 10+ for 200-300 a piece
