Any way/mod to increase prisoner recruitment?
I'm in late game and mostly take only tier 4 and 5 prisoners. Usually the lowest tier (2-3) will join at a rate of 1 per day but sometimes it can be weeks before a T4 or T5 wants to join (actually I think T5 and T6 prisoners are bugged and will never join so I chuck them into my castle prisons in anticipation of a patch / mod which fixes it)

Charm and Leadership are very high (150 and 130) but it takes forever to get a handful of prisoners to join. Selling them is pointless because I have 2 million golden denars, donating them too because the influence gain is so low now. Recruiting T1 and T2 troops from villages and then training them up to T4-5-6 is long and boring and quite impossible to do in a controlled environment (vs. looters/bandits) because I'm always at war and need high tier troops because of limited party / army size so my game plan relies on directly recruiting T4+ units. Do I need to level my roguery instead?

It has a tweakable setting for how often prisoners join you that you can set per tier of troops. So if you only want T5-T6 prisoners joining faster, you can do that.

I use improved Garrisons Mod. Put them in my castle or town and let it recruit prisoners and town recruits and train them. When I get into trouble lose a lot of troops i go back and recruit from my garrison. Or when I fill up on enemy troops i'd like to recruit.

It seems that some high tier troops are more difficult to recruit than others. And, IMO, some of the Prisoner Recruitment mechanics are bugged. I've had prisoners I've been trying to recruit... forever. I've dragged them along with me, fed them, cared for them, for weeks of real-time play of several hours a day. Nothing.

One thing that does seem to matter for high tier recruitment is that the smaller your Prisoner train, the easier it may be to recruit a high tier unit. But, testing that has yielded some weird results.

I also think there's a bug with loading a save and having prisoners currently being held that can not be recruited. eg: Capture 10 Tier 5 units, save and quit for the day, load up the next day and you'll never be able to recruit those units, ever... It could be related to patches, though, so I can't say that's the case for sure. AND, I've seen what could be exceptions to that as well. It may be something going on with certain units/types.

Town Prisons don't do crap... I've never seen them produce anything I can recruit. Even putting them in my Prisoner train doesn't seem to demonstrate any effect for them having been in a "real prison." I can only thing that formal Prisons have no practical use other than storing Lords.

I don't think T5 and T6 prisoners are bugged. I believe it's intentional to make it a little more difficult to get the highest grade of troops. So I wouldn't wait on a fix for that, you'd be better off just looking on the Nexus for a mod for it.

Mods aside, a somewhat quick route to get the royal troops to T6 is to get the various bandits. If you get the Leadership perk Disciplinarian you can upgrade them into that close of troop pretty easily, and be most of the way to getting them to T5/6 already

the only way to get prisonner : useBLUNT weapons and arrows (i prefer arrows) : in camp i get most of them alive, thought some of my companion have not blunt, so, well, one day or another we all die right ?
Also, selling prisonners, even looter, increase your roguery skill.
Ok, you think, this heavy dumb speak me about roguery i don't care about. Ya ya. Your roguery skill increase your loot chances : 25 % more at 100 ... In big battle it make the difference, if you are in difficult settings.
Good game.

Some troops do appear to be bugged. It's not strictly by Tier, though. I've had plenty of high Tier units come from Prisoners. That's actually the primary way I replenish units and acquire Noble troops - By capturing those units from other factions. :) It "feels" like a kind of Group Bug. So, if you get one group of high-tier units that you don't seem to ever be able to recruit from, any further prisoners of that same unit type get added to it and also can't be recruited.

All anecdotal testimony, for sure. Still, it's something that keeps staring me in the face during every play session. :/

^-- This. And, you can get some really powerful troops from that ability. Once we get further along EA and get to unit balancing, we'll have to see how long those lines of units are going to be available at that relatively easy-to-reach Perk.

for disciplinarian, read my last discussion ^^

Wrong. Have a character with high medicine and the Doctor's Oath perk or whatever it is called. You'll have plenty of prisoners even with axes, swords and lances.

I'll give it a try, thanks. Though I can't find any way to change settings. Does it fix T5-6 being able to join you? I remember when I was starting out, I took 4 Veteran Imperial Crossbows as prisoners...I had them for over 100 days and eventually sold them so I'm 100% sure they are not recruitable in vanilla

Even without that perk or using blunts I end up with way more prisoners than I can keep once I start doing battles in armies with my faction.

That should allow you to recruit T5-6 prisoners. The settings might be something you change in the .xml file and not through a menu. Some mods do it that way.

Improved Garrisons was mentioned already and it works nicely for T5-6 troops, not to mention it has some other quality of life improvements to garrison management.

Yeah, with large armies clashing the amount of prisoners gets high. I usually take only T5-6 troops and the lords as prisoners. The only exception would be Vlandian and Empire cavalry at T4.

Yes it fixes T5-6 being able to join you.

To edit how often they join you, go into the mod folder -> open bin folder -> open win64_shipping_client folder

Find the config.json file and open it with notepad. From there you can edit the value of how often each tier of prisoner joins.

Got it, thank you! I did take a look inside when I installed it but I ran away screaming when all I saw was .dll files. Side question: I see there are T7 and T8 troops listed in the file, are there units of that level in the game as of now? The highest I've seen is T6 (noble tree)

Some mods add T7-8 troops and that mod has taken it into account.
