Can two-handed swords hit multiple enemies?

This is when I've been noticing it with the 2 hand sword I've been using. I'll kill a target and hit another. With a 2 handed axe I use occasionally, however, I have noticed sometimes I'll hit up to 3 targets if they're closely pack in front of me and I get a good clean swing, regardless if any die or not.
Yup. If you deal enough damage to kill one, it go on to hit the other, and if you still have enough momentum to kill that one, it'll go to the other and so on... I've killed up to 3 guys that I know of. The axes are better in my experience, but swords aren't bad.

Yes

well, I tried that, but I had only success with two-handed axes. Maybe it is possible also with two-handed mace, but I did not try it.

I'm reasonably sure I've gotten multiple hits while swinging it horizontally in large melees. I've been using the tier 5 or 6 Battanian one. It's 2 hand only (can't switch to use it 1 handed, not sure if that makes a difference). I'm also on foot, I don't think it's possible to get multiple hits on horseback, never tried.

A definite "Maybe."

But, not at the same time...

<rimshot>

By chance, since where a weapon hits and what spot it hits as well as how fast its moving matters and there is no such thing as a "Target" attack, you could hit additional targets just because they moved into your swing or vice/versa. But, not "at the same time" and you can't "attack through" a units collision box unless they're killed and go "ragdoll." AFAIK.

There are mods that allow you to swing through enemies and hit multiple units with every swing. But, they're... Well, let's just say I don't approve of using them, but other players are welcome to if they wish.

Some weapons seem very effective for catching multiple enemies during the swing animation and some appear to be less so. IMO, one probably needs to look at the Handling characteristics of the weapon. Their might be a better chance of that with high-handling characteristics. (The surface area that's actually capable of causing damage matters too, one supposes.)

the multi hit effect seems to be largely based on the damage you dealt with the first hit, if you do face disfiguring amounts of damage on the first hit, your attack will not stop at the first hit and continue to the next target, though the extra hit is usually a farcry in damage from the first, its usually enough to stun the bonus target, so for extremely high two handed skill this can be a good way to deal with multiple enemies fast.

If it has a shield icon with a small skull it can.

It couldn't in WB, but I've seen instances where it appears to work in BL. The two handed polearm "Warrazor" that I've used a bit seems to be capable of it and it seems to be more frequent when used against masses of Looters than "heavy infantry" types and some other units.

It may just be an artifact of how damage is applied rather than an intended mechanic, as far as I can tell. (As per Liro and MinenSpecht's posts - Damage & Shield Damage Bonus)

Only thing I've managed to cleave multiple targets with is the 2h axes. I tried 2h swords for a bit but swapped back to axes mostly because I couldn't cleave with the swords compared to the 2h axes where it's effortless.

2H axe does work but not really sure about anything else.

I believe that icon means that it does extra damage to shields. That's why it's commonly on axes.

i feel like this is why you get to pick between blocking arrows and insane amounts of extra damage for the final two hander perks, the final upgrade is meant to significantly enhance your cleaving ability by spiking your damage significantly
