It's some kind of bug. If you buy it, it will make very little money, and eventually it will automatically convert into a regular workshop. I bought one and it turned into a linen weavery several days later with no input from me

I think if a notable 'dies', any workshops they own get messed up for a while, and the artisan workshop is a result of that bug. The odd part is that the shop workers have a unique line of dialog when you attempt to purchase the artisan workshop.

Now the wool weavery in the town has no shop worker to be found, I dont know if this is because of the Artisan shop or not.

I've seen that before too. I don't think it is related to the artisan workshop thing but I don't know. The only way I know to get the workers to come back is to leave town, do any things for a while so that the town scene is purged from RAM, then go back to town and hope the workers spawn the next time the scene is built

I also found out that work shops you dont own some times change. I was trying to see if you can sculpt trade routs by buying all the workshops in a town and making them one typ so that town can mass produce goods for super cheap then sell the shops, because they make little money when mass producing like that. I did get a nice trade rout going that power leveled my trade and made me a mill in just a few seasons but to day I noticed alot of the shops had changed, now i did start this in a 1.3 save and have been playing 1.4 on same save so that mite be what changed the shops.
